U.S. Sen. Cory Booker says people must demand change to reduce gun violence

Source: ABC

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, says Congress should look for "common sense ways" to reduce gun violence and pass them on a bipartisan basis.

Booker discussed the congressional response to the Las Vegas mass shooting, which left 59 people dead, on "UPFRONTwith Mike Gousha," produced in partnership with Wispolitics.com. Booker was in Milwaukee for an event with U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisconsin.

Booker said prohibiting or regulating the bump fire stock -- the accessory the gunman used to fire faster on the crowd -- would be a start.

He said comprehensive, universal background checks would be one common sense solution, as well as trying to keep guns out of the hands of people who are "high risk."

...so, yes, the proposed common sense legislation, which includes restrictions on such add ons, would have stopped Vegas would have stopped the Vegas massacre.

Also, it is mistaken assumption that Democrats should only pass legislation that specifically would have prevented the most recent mass shooting. I do not understand why people make this assumption. I do think that these mass shootings do highlight the broad need for more comprehensive gun control measures, rather than simply targeting the most recent shooting.

Again, why limit gun control legislation only to the very last mass shooting? Not sure I understand the logic. I take it you agree that we need more comprehensive gun control legislation and that Democrats should not just limit themselves to litigating the facts of the very last shooting, which is what the NRA tries to do all the time, right?

How many bullets are enough? In California, both legislators and voters answered: 10. They pointed to mass shootings — Sandy Hook, Orlando, San Bernardino — saying it should be illegal to be able to inflict so much firepower without having to frequently pause to reload. The law they passed makes it a crime to possess gun magazines with more than 10 bullets.

But some gun owners, backed by the state affiliate of the National Rifle Association, are challenging the high-capacity magazine ban in San Diego federal court and already scored an early win when a judge blocked the law from taking effect over the summer.

This next week, while state Attorney General Xavier Becerra’s office puts the final touches on its opening brief to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal on the matter, the nation will continue to grapple with what comes next after Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. And part of that debate is sure to focus on whether a federal ban on high-capacity magazines is an appropriate or viable solution.

Details about the cache of guns used by Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock — which were apparently purchased legally — are still coming out, but it stands to reason that many took high-capacity magazines. Authorities have already confirmed he had “bump stock” attachments on 12 of the 23 guns in his Mandalay Bay hotel room, devices that allow a legal semi-automatic firearm to mimic the rapid fire of a machine gun, emptying a large magazine in seconds.

millions of calls- battering Congress, Senate and President to "MAKE THEM DO IT". The 70% of non-gun owners could easily make them do it.

Even Vegas residents could easily vote to pass a Vegas city ordnance , no guns allowed in Vegas, felony charge & enforce it.
