At least 10 killed by fast-moving California wildfires, fire officials say

Source: CBS News

SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- Wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through California wine country Monday, killing at least 10 people, destroying 1,500 homes and businesses and sending thousands fleeing as flames raged unchecked through high-end resorts, grocery stores and tree-lined neighborhoods.

At least 10 people died and two were seriously injured in the blazes that started on Sunday, fire officials said.

The flames were burning "at explosive rates" because of 50 mph winds, said Ken Pimlott, director of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

California's fire chief says at least 1,500 homes and commercial buildings have been destroyed, CBS San Francisco reports. He said numerous people have been injured and some residents are currently missing.

Color coded people. Californians are blue. Puerto Ricans are brown. 45 cares only about white people who voted for him. He is too dumb to read anything, so he goes by the color of their skin or the color of their votes. He forgets that we are all Americans. He forgets that we are all people, too.

The before pics were of a nice middle class neighborhood. The after pic showed no structures. The whole area swept and scorched by fire. Terrible devastation.

Of the five fires in the areas all are still 0% contained. The only thing saving the rest of the city at this point is that mid afternooon the wind shifted & the tanker planes finally showed up.

paid California in full for any of their Firefighting cost so far this year. BTW,worst time of year for any type of fire for the Wine Country or for that part,Inland Region. All the Grape Vines are drying down as well as all the Softwood Trees in the area. Talk about a Can of Gas ready to go.

Last year brought a lot of rain, a lot of vegetation leading to a lot of fuel for fire. And so it goes..

The Santa Ana Wind, I figure.

Hope people do get evacuated on time.

Several off ramps were blocked with cones and law enforcement. Several business structures destroyed on West side of 101. Looked like the fire jumped a 6 lane freeway. A friend called at 5am to let me know what was happening. Sutter and Kaiser hospitals were being evacuated this morning.

Jerry Brown is more than capable of doing what needs to be done.

I'm less than 20 miles from Napa and the smoke infiltrated my house.

Thank Dawg for goats! I'm not saying this to be flip, but our town brings in herds of goats every summer to chow down on the dry vegetation in the canyon where I live. People love them, and they do the job much more efficiently than humans with machines.

I grieve for my beloved wine country - one of the most beautiful places on earth.
