Trump Threatens NFL Tax Breaks In Early-Morning Tweetstorm

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published OCTOBER 10, 2017 7:01 AM

Up early Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump fired off several tweets referring to his ongoing feud with NFL players protesting during the national anthem.

Trump escalated his tiff with the football league by suggesting the government nix the NFL’s tax breaks.

The NFL gave up its tax exempt status in 2015, leaving it unclear which tax breaks Trump would be looking to eliminate. The league does see tax breaks when building stadiums, but those are granted by local governments, not the federal government.

Trump also went after Jemele Hill, the ESPN anchor recently suspended from the network for tweets about the owner of the Dallas Cowboys.

Trump had dreams of his New Jersey Generals being admitted into the NFL. Too bad Donnie. You were dealing with real business men. His demands to move in direct competition in the fall led to the demise of the USFL along with grabbing premium players out of college. He thought the NFL would pick up the Generals. I can't believe the NFL owners would even support him at all. I can only imagine they are so glad they didn't let him into the owners club. He would have been a wrecking ball.

Shunning him like radioactive waste, for all of the obvious reasons. His only successes in life have come from scamming the stupid and the gullible.

They saw him for the miserable little shit he was and is, and wouldn't allow him to become an NFL team owner. He'll never forgive them. Fun to watch.

Way to endear yourself to the NFL owners that backed you, you cretinous man-child!

If he keeps this up it will be the owners taking knees.

And it also makes me wonder if he wanted to buy a team as an income tax dodge to begin with.

Only the umbrella organization of the NFL. It bills itself as more of a trade group that organizes 32 individual for-profit entities.

Every politician knows that the only effective threat to the NFL is about anti-trust.

This is the historical go-to move for every politician that gets a bee in his bonnet about the NFL. A quick internet search shows that every right wing rag has suggested this in the last month.

I always thought it was strange the way professional leagues are allowed to dictate employment conditions to their employees. How would you feel if you were a young African-American who grew up in the inner city of Miami and were told you had to go to Green Bay in order to work. "Sorry, it been decided for you. You are not allowed to work for any other company in your industry other than this particular one in the coldest and whitest place in the Country. You might get an opportunity to change that in 4 years but until then this is your only option." I get why it is important to maintain competitive leagues but it is a messed up way to treat your employees.
