Disgraced Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis meeting with Romanian residents to push them to ban same-sex marriage. Liberty Counsel
Disgraced Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, infamous for going to jail over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, is taking her anti-gay sideshow on the road. The lawless government official is in Romania exhorting citizens to take away the civil rights of gay people.
Davis is touring the country with Harry Mihet, Vice President of Legal Affairs and Chief Litigation Counsel for her attorneys at the religious right legal organization Liberty Counsel. The group has been designated an anti-LGBT hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
American fundamentalist Christians have joined forces with the Russian Orthodox Church to try to change Romanias constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The countrys laws currently defines marriage as between two spouses and the advocates want it changed to man and woman.
Under Romanian law, the constitution can be changed if at least 500,000 residents petition the government for a change. The Coalition for the Family, a religious right group backed by the church, collected over 3 million signatures on the petition.

(2,957 posts)They have endless energy to flail away at LGBT rights and dignity worldwide. Why? How? How much hate do they have that they go to all that trouble to fuck with LGBT rights? Don't they have lives at home with children, family, jobs, hobbies, target shooting?
We had that kook - what was his name, Scott Lively? - go to Africa and consult with Uganda on that kill-the-gays law. Now this Kim Davis loser going to Romania.
I wish the Dems would start putting out forceful, new policy statements on this and lay the groundwork now as to how they're going to address this in the future. Maybe some sort of restrictions on travel for people who leave the country to promote hate. (Define it as terrorism or something.) Can't we say that she has no free speech rights if she's outside the country? I'll grab on to anything here.

(574 posts)For three days, according to participants and audio recordings, thousands of Ugandans, including police officers, teachers and national politicians, listened raptly to the Americans, who were presented as experts on homosexuality. The visitors discussed how to make gay people straight, how gay men often sodomized teenage boys and how the gay movement is an evil institution whose goal is to defeat the marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity.

...While tanks and artillery have been Russias weapons of choice to project its power into neighboring Ukraine and Georgia, Mr. Putin has also mobilized faith to expand the countrys reach and influence. A fervent foe of homosexuality and any attempt to put individual rights above those of family, community or nation, the Russian Orthodox Church helps project Russia as the natural ally of all those who pine for a more secure, illiberal world free from the tradition-crushing rush of globalization, multiculturalism and womens and gay rights....
