Clinton 'shocked and appalled' by Weinstein allegations

Source: The Hill

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 10/10/17 01:37 PM EDT

Hillary Clinton on Tuesday broke her silence about sexual assault allegations leveled against film producer and Democratic mega-donor Harvey Weinstein, saying his alleged behavior “cannot be tolerated.”

“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein,” the former Democratic presidential nominee said in a statement posted to Twitter by her former campaign spokesman Nick Merrill, which her account retweeted.

“The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior," Clinton said.

Clinton had come under pressure in recent days to respond to the allegations against Weinstein, who had donated to her and other prominent Democratic politicians.

4. First folks want her to sit down and shut up. Then they want her to stand up and speak out.

She has to be one tough lady to deal with all the crap thrown at her.

BTW, is there anyone who speaks up for all the women involved in situations like this on all sides? The wives, mothers, sisters, daughters of men who perpetrate sexual harassment of any kind.

And in my mind there is a huge leap from "sexual harassment" to "rape" and "molestation."

We have to do a better job of raising our sons to respect the females in their lives at all levels and to teach them, that while sexual feelings are natural, it is not normal to allow such feelings to get out of control. And on the other hand we need to do a better job of teaching our daughters and sons how to handle harassing situations and to be fearless in speaking out against such behaviors.

Relationships between adult men and women are complicated and we fool ourselves if we think they aren't.

2. Good. Dems associated with Weinstein need to forcefully address this.

Not speaking out is not going to let them off the hook.

6. Since when is Hillary obligated to speak on anything?

Hillary doesn't have to "break silence" just because a few people want her to. I believe she can speak or not when she darn well wants to.

9. Of course! I was just annoyed by this sudden drumbeat (started by Mika Brzezinski)

that Hillary was "staying mum" on the subject when it's only been a few days (including a weekend). Hillary doesn't tend to blurt out her statements anyway (a good thing). Mika was just all proud of herself because she was supposedly willing to scuttle a book deal with Hachette; at least she says that, but now it's back in the works.

11. I think the relevance link comes in with the influence and support he lent to her campaign.

That's why people care.

But her opinion is actually irrelevant, because endorsements like his don't come with an in-depth background check, and rumors are just that, rumors until substantiated. It wouldn't have been reasonable to expect Hillary to have known about all this, so why make hay of it?

If she's a chump for trusting HIM and he turned out to be a sexual predator, what does that make the people we know voted for Trump who, in his own words, committed sexual assault? Not allegations by alleged victims, but he himself said he did it.

And at the end of the day, Trump is president, and Weinstein is not.

EXACTLY.

I'm not getting my undies in a bunch over this situation, especially when we have an increasingly paranoid, mad man who will more than likely get us into World War 3 to distract from ruSSia IF/WHEN Mueller lays the smack down on him via the findings of his investigation.
