Trump: My presidency is 'substantially ahead of schedule'
Source: Politico
President Donald Trump on Friday pledged to an adoring crowd of evangelicals his commitment to religious liberty, as he declared that his administration was substantially ahead of schedule in delivering on campaign promises.
Speaking at the Values Voter Summit, Trump boasted about tremendous strides against ISIS and his plan to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, while saying he hoped to give Americans a Christmas gift of tax reform and to deliver on scrapping Obamacare, after multiple failed repeal efforts.
"We're taking a little different route than we had hoped because getting Congress they've forgotten what their pledges were," Trump said, referring to multiple plans he's rolled out in the past 24 hours to undermine the health care law. "So we're going a little different route, but you know what, in the end it will be just as effective and maybe it will even be better."
Trump, who received standing ovations throughout his speech, promised to restore "moral clarity" to the United States' view of the world, as he touted his success in office.

(26,262 posts)I try to remain hopeful that Kelly and Mattis might still have an iota of integrity and patriotism left in their veins, and maybe they are hanging in there to try and prevent something catastrophic. Then, again, perhaps I am just being naive. I do know I am SOOOOOO thankful that Flynn is no longer in the mix.

(6,709 posts)I think on the issue of nuclear war he and also Mattis do have integrity and are in the right place. I've never been a big fan of the military but in this case we may end up owing them a LOT.

(9,313 posts)We need to come to grips with the fact this he is dangerously mentally unstable. This particular delusion is relatively innocuous. But his delusional thinking is terrifyingly pervasive.

(3,827 posts)Who conned millions of his supporters into voting for his ass- I don't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth. Everything he says is for a GOP "reason".
Sure, he might be mentally unstable, but he sure as hell doesn't have Alzheimers- Faking that illness will be his last con to dodge the charges Mueller will throw at his feet.
Bannon has an outlet now to spread the misinformation/propaganda for his King. All of this is being orchestrated by those in the alt-right- and nothing anyone says is going to change my mind about me believing that.

(3,282 posts)I don't think anyone believed it was even possible to legitimize far right-wing fringe conspiracy groups like InfoWars as quickly as Trump has. And no one has ever emboldened and normalized white nationalists, white supremacists, and nazis as quickly as Trump has. Those folks love him! He's done so much work for them, even going as far as to speak in front of the Value Voters Summit. He's also been double quick at dismantling protections put in place for LGBTQ+ people, women, and POC, while at the same time dismantling environmental protections that primarily impact poor and non-white populations.
It's amazing how much work he's managed to get done while spending public money faster than any president in history on frivolous stuff like golf, secret service protection for his gaudy gold Manhattan apartment, golf, campaign rallies after he won the election, and of course golf. He's such a multi-tasker!
Keep an eye out, folks. The big flashy stuff that he's not accomplishing is just a distraction from all of the extremely horrifying little stuff that has been getting done in record time. You're not going to see that on major network news.

I can't swear to it but I'm guessing Jesus never taught us that tax cuts for the wealthiest among us were a necessity, or that it was morally acceptable to deny healthcare to the poorest citizens.
That one really jumped out at me. Evidently Trump thinks that just saying something, makes it true.

(20,249 posts)180° flip last Nov. Didn't happen in increments really. Unless counting the losses in state and local creeping in. Someone correct me on this if need be. Real and True President Barack Obama, then the Travesty of All Time.
PatSeg
(47,430 posts)And it was so bizarre. I thought electing Barack Obama was a quantum leap forward and then it was followed by a dramatic leap backward. Apparently on the far right, there have been incremental steps to this point, throughout the Obama years, and those people were waiting for a candidate like Donald Trump. Obviously there are no simple answers and the Russian influence certainly contributed, but apparently while many of us were celebrating our first black president, there were angry people who fed off of Fox News and right-wing radio, armed (some literally) and ready for the first demigod who would lead them.
Most of us are still in shock, I think. It could take years before we can clearly see what happened.

(9,313 posts)... is incalculable.
The notion that he isn't 'accomplishing" anything is dangerous. The actions that are big enough, or implemented at a level high enough, to make the news are just the tip of the iceberg compared to damage being done by the systematic decimation of executive regulatory functions going on at every level. Law is irrelevant when the executive functions that implement law are destroyed.
When you couple this with the fact that he is a dangerously mentally unstable person hellbent on proving to the world how powerful he is.... Our national predicament is truly terrifying.

There is a lot of damage being done behind the curtains...PAY ATTENTION.
Doesn't anyone wonder why Ryan and McConnell have been so silent? Because they are hiding behind a curtain planing and executing all the damage, Pence too.

(30,613 posts)On January 20th, hardly anybody (including President Turd) had ever even heard of the 25th Amendment. Now it's a household word. Let alone impeachment, which is only becoming less likely because the 25th Amendment might happen first.

The notion that DT is "doing nothing" is the most dangerous notion out there.
And he will continue to decompensate mentally. In my six decades on this planet, I can't think of a time that our nation faced a greater threat.
