Sen. Judiciary Committee Launches Probe In Russia Corruption Surrounding Uranium Deal

Source: Mediate

by Joseph A. Wulfsohn | 12:42 am, October 18th, 2017

Late on Tuesday, it was reported that the Senate Judiciary Committee has opened a probe into the recently uncovered corruption that occurred when the Obama-era Uranium One Deal was made with Russia.

The Hill reported that the FBI had evidence that Russia nuclear industry officials were involved in “bribery, kickbacks, extortion, and money laundering” in hopes to strengthen Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business in the U.S. and that they reportedly routed money to the Clinton Foundation. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) allowed the Russia-based Rosatom to buy a Canadian mining company called Uranium One, which controlled 20% of America’s uranium.

Aides of chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) expect him to ask Attorney General Jeff Sessions during a public oversight hearing being held on Wednesday. He also dispatched letters to all the federal agencies involved in the passing of the uranium deal, inquiring whether they were aware of the FBI case before they voted.

“It has recently come to the Committee’s attention that employees of Rosatom were involved in a criminal enterprise involving a conspiracy to commit extortion and money laundering during the time of the CFIUS transaction,” Grassley wrote in the letter. “The fact that Rosatom subsidiaries in the United States were under criminal investigation as a result of a U.S. intelligence operation apparently around the time CFIUS approved the Uranium One/Rosatom transaction raises questions about whether that information factored into CFIUS’ decision to approve the transaction.”

So obviously a defensive move by the Republicans and like so many of their schemes, it will bellyflop.

Uranium in the US may not be exported without govt permission.

US uranium reserves are tiny.

The idea that Russia paid bribes to own a tiny amount of Uranium in the US, uranium which can not be exported, is absurd.

This investigation proves how corrupt the Republican Party is.

Changing the subject is the GOP's favorite tactic whenever they're losing the argument. The "investigation" into Russian-Clinton Foundation interaction no doubt was triggered by "Clinton Cash," a right-wing, Breitbart author's book during the election. Half truths, at best. Here's Snopes.com on the subject:

They've known about this for years. They also know it's a big bunch of nothing. But 24 hours must have passed without the Clintons being blamed for some crime actually commited by Repugs, so they had to drag this dead horse out to stink up the news cycle again.
