TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A white former Oklahoma police officer was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in the off-duty fatal shooting of his daughter's black boyfriend after jurors in three previous trials couldn't decide whether to find him guilty of murder.

Jurors deliberated about six hours Wednesday night before finding ex-Tulsa officer Shannon Kepler, 57, guilty of the lesser charge in the August 2014 killing of 19-year-old Jeremey Lake, who had just started dating Kepler's then-18-year-old daughter, Lisa.

The jury recommended a sentence of 15 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 20.

Lake's death occurred four days before a white police officer fatally shot an unarmed black teenager in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson on Aug. 9, 2014. Brown's killing touched off months of protests and became a catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement, which decries police violence against minorities and calls for greater transparency from law enforcement officials, especially in cases of officer-involved shootings.

but I'll take this if the judge sentences him to the max. Otherwise this man murders and walks

It all started because of raging hormones. We all had them and there is no damage done because of them, in most cases. He kicked his daughter out because she was have sexual relations and he couldn't handle it. Dropped her off at a homeless shelter where She met Jeremey Lake. The murderer created the situation and then killed Lake in cold blood.

it should be murder not manslaughter. And there was a second person shot so that should require a charge too. There were so many things wrong with this case like the defense lawyers trying to scrub any black people off the jury. They had 3 trials with hung jury where there was only 1 black person...in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Prison is the perfect place for him. I hear they love ex-cops there. And he needs to be in gen pop and not some special secure area away from black prisoners.

The era of getting away with murder needs to end.

Mostly white jury, white man "defending" his white daughter from a black man. can't be murder, must be manslaughter... THIS is why Black Lives Matter, because in the eyes of whites, they just don't.
