Tillerson: Assad Has 'No Role' in Syria's Future

Source: Voice of America

Last Updated: October 26, 2017 1:31 PM

GENEVA — America’s top diplomat, Rex Tillerson, says Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has no role to play in the future of his country and he must go.

In Geneva, the last Geneva, the last scheduled stop on the U.S. secretary of state’s week-long trip to the Middle East and South Asia, Tillerson called his discussions with U.N. Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura fruitful. Syria’s civil war has gone on for more than six years. Nearly one-half-million people have been killed and around 11 million have been displaced both inside and outside the country.

Despite the bleak picture, Tillerson sees positive signs toward a political resolution to this crisis. He says the militant Islamic State group is on the brink of defeat and the United States is continuing to de-escalate violence in Syria.

He said the United States wants to see Syria emerge from this war as a whole and unified country — a country in which President Bashar al-Assad has no role to play.

If Trump was Putin's puppet, why is he using the SDF to steal the Syrians oil against the wishes of Putin? why has he not removed any sanctions put by the Obama admin, even the ones put in by executive order if anything, he as added more sanctions using and seized Russian's property using executive actions. It seems like the puppet has completely gone against the puppet master and this is for those who ever believed that he was ever a Putin puppet.

And Trump is enforcing 99.9% of the sanctions that was put on the Russia and their allies in Syria, Iran and Hezbollah. If you are saying that Russia is better off on sanctions with Trump than they were under Obama, then u must be dreaming.

This idea that Trump is pro Russia is the most bizarre story line I have read in a long while. Heck, he is about to put restrictions on Russian media company in the US, some thing not even the very anti Russian Obama admin thought of doing.

but how is he a Putin poodle? what has he done to make Putin's life easier? He still thinks Putin should return Crimea to Ukraine, he abandon Assad etc etc. But then again, some people think this is just Trump the moron playing some form of 3d chess to fool everybody.

12. Politico (10/16) - Trump's praise of Russia, Iran and Assad regime riles GOP experts

Wasn't Trump bragging during the campaign about how he would cozy up to Assad and Russia in order to fight ISIS?

https://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/trump-praise-russia-iran-assad-criticism-229546

Almost any list of America’s top foreign rivals would include Iran, Russia and the government of Syria. Sunday night, Donald Trump spoke approvingly of all three.

Trump infuriated Republican insiders—and contradicted one of his own senior foreign policy advisers—when he suggested that those three governments are playing a positive role in Syria’s civil war.

“I don't like Assad at all, but Assad is killing ISIS. Russia is killing ISIS and Iran is killing ISIS,” Trump said when asked about his plans for Syria. He was referring to the country’s president, Bashar Assad, and using an acronym for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Although Trump has argued before against intervening in Syria, and often calls for cooperation with Russia against ISIS, his statement Sunday night was particularly blunt—and underscored the huge gap between Trump’s views and mainstream Republican thinking.

U.S. Imposes Sanctions on Syrian Government Workers After Sarin Attack

Also using the SDF to steal Syrian land and oil.....

He attacked, steals from and then sanctions the govt? I wonder if there is any history of republican candidates pretending to be anti interventionist to win the election "cough" Bush "cough"
