White House won't denounce anti-Romney ad

Source: USA Today

¬snip¬

But White House press secretary Jay Carney said it is Romney's campaign, more than Obama's, that has invested in false advertising -- most recently with an ad that suggests the president is weakening the 1996 welfare law's work requirement.

"We do not control third-party ads" Carney said this afternoon, echoing similar statements from Obama's deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter. By contrast, he said, the Romney camp's welfare ad is "factually incorrect."

Asked if Obama would agree with Romney's call for a truce on negative advertising, Carney said, "I find it interesting that he would ask that."

and from earlier:

“We are betting that a substantive campaign conducted on the high ground and focused primarily on jobs and the economy will trump a campaign that is designed to appeal to our worst instincts,” Fehrnstrom said.

Replied Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith: “The Romney campaign’s faux outrage over an ad run by an outside group separate from our campaign rings extremely hollow. … Mitt Romney won the Republican primary only by tearing down each of his opponents with ruthlessly negative campaigning, including ads funded by outside allies.”

“When the Romney campaign finally reaches the high ground, we look forward to greeting them there,” the aide added.

Zing!!

fuller quote here:
The Obama campaign dismissed the criticism as "faux outrage" and hypocrisy. "Mitt Romney won the Republican primary only by tearing down each of his opponents with ruthlessly negative campaigning, including ads funded by outside allies," campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement. "His campaign has questioned whether the president understands what it is to be American, attacked his patriotism, and is currently running an ad that a former president and authors of the welfare-to-work legislation have called a flat-out lie. When the Romney campaign finally reaches the high ground, we look forward to greeting them there."

There is nothing false about it. No one is saying that Romney killed that mans wife. What the ad is saying is that the policies made by rich assholes who shut down factories and line their own pockets are detrimental to working families. These were the types of policies and decisions that Romney made at Bain and they are the types of policies that he will bring to the White House if elected. End of story!!!

So far the only people I have seen get butthurt over this ad are media personalities who probably earn 6 or 7 figures already and are so far detached from the realities of life for working people that they think its out of line. Its not out of line its the shit we put up with on a daily basis!!!! Romney and all the other corporate assholes that close factories and move jobs overseas so they can line their own pockets need to be called out. Its more than just a job that gets moved to China sometimes its an entire life that's destroyed.

end rant.

Everything these republicans did to Obama these past 3 plus yrs...is coming back on them in spades. birther?, can we say taxes Romney?. Every ugly racist socialist word used to describe Obama, Romney is getting it worse. Now he wants a truce? Sure, after Nov.4th.

...any contact with the makers of third party ads.

Coordinating with them is illegal. It's best to avoid any comments on their ads.

The Romney camp should be reminded that such coordination is illegal; just in case they've forgotten.

Mitten's campaign have already violated that clause. KKKarl Rovvee and his pac as well as Koch's, US Commerce and many others have consulted with Mitten's campaign. These MF truly feel that they are above any laws and rules. Remember, GAWD has chosen the GOP party as its master leader of the world.

Sounds familiar to WW1 and WW2, anyone?????????

I saw a thread about that the other day. It's almost as if they're trying to bait the white house to follow suit.

a pro-super pac does? Shit, Mitten's campaign don't even denounce what their pro-Mit's super pac ads say. Soon Mittens super duper pacs will be out in full force. Now did Mittens campaign denounce those ugly commercials concerning "O hating white folks" and "O not being an American" huh?

Typical GOPper, they effing can dish it out but cry foul when the tables are turned on them.

Did it for an amount of money that, by itself, is no more significant to him than the nickel I did not bother to pick up off the sidewalk this afternoon is to me. Make no mistake, Romney would kill you, cut your throat with a grin, for the coins stuck in the crack of your couch. Do not do back-flips to try and look away from the fact that he is interchangeable with a mugger or drug pusher: he will take whatever anyone has, whatever the harm it does, so long as he can get his own hands on it and do so in safety. The back-story proffered as apologia in this matter does not make a damned bit of difference: if Romney had not gutted the company the man worked at, and pocketed for himself that man's livelihood, the matter would have turned out differently, and everyone involved knows it, with the possible exception of Romney and the sycophantic flacks of the press desperate to prove they are 'fair' by looking away from the truth of what vulture capitalism is, and what a vulture capitalist is. Romney killed this man's wife for pocket change, and Romney has done this to hundreds, thousands of people; pocketed their livelihoods and pensions, thrown them out of their homes, left them destitute and dying, and all so he could cram a few more dollars into his pockets. He has no regard whatever for human life where snatching a few more bucks for himself is concerned. That is what he is, that is what he does.

"Romney loves America like a tick loves a dog."
