At least six people have been killed in New York after the driver of a truck mowed down people on a pedestrian and cycle path in Lower Manhattan.
A man who emerged from the vehicle brandishing imitation guns was shot and arrested by police officers.
...
New York City's mayor and governor are at the scene. US media are calling the incident a terror attack.
One eyewitness, identified as "Eugene," told ABC Channel 7 that he saw a white pick-up truck driving fast down the cycle path alongside the West Side Highway, near Stuyvesant High School, at full speed and hitting a number of people.

Both men in the truck were later arrested and charged with relevant violations.

(94,727 posts)The Hudson river bikeway is separated from the street by about five feet and a curb. You cannot drive into it or engage with bikers "by accident".

(8,704 posts)I noticed that before Canada passed the Magnitsky Act there was a person running over people. It seems that the terrorism mostly happens to push against or distract. The terrorism in France before the election. Germany and UK.

(51,627 posts)and ended up way down town I said "Holy Shit" since I know how far that is in NYC blocks. For someone to drive the wrong way for 20 BLOCKS I knew it was terrorism. I also was glad that the police shot the guy in the leg but that was just how he was hit randomly while their goal is to just take a person down ASAP and not take particular aim. Now the guy will be tried and most likely go to jail instead of taking the typically "easy" way out by lethal gunshot.
The fucking moron will love this...TERRORISM (aka DISTRACTION). I wouldn't put it past them to be grateful for this in a really screwed up, political agenda, propaganda way.

(94,727 posts)Eight people were killed and 11 others were seriously injured when Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, a native of Uzbekistan who came to the United States in 2010, allegedly drove onto a bike path near the West Side Highway on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Saipov allegedly crashed the truck into a school bus, got out with two imitation firearms and shouted "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is Great" before he was shot and wounded by police, authorities said.

(94,727 posts)Five of those killed after a terrorist plowed a truck through a Manhattan bike path were Argentine high school pals celebrating three decades of friendship.
The Argentine government identified the slain victims as Hernán Mendoza, Diego Angelini, Alejandro Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernan Ferruchi.
Erlij was an established businessman crafting steel near his Rosario hometown, while Ferruchi was an architect. All of them were visiting New York City for what would be a fateful 30-year reunion.
The vacationers spent the brisk, sunny afternoon pedaling along the Hudson River when 29-year-old suspect Sayfullo Saipov stormed toward them in a rented Home Depot flatbed truck.

As these incidents become more common, perhaps it is time to hold the manufacturers liable until they begin to take steps to reduce harm potential. Are you opposed to this?
