A woman was fired from her job after a photo of her flipping off President Trump's motorcade went viral.
The Huffington Post reported that the woman, Juli Briskman, was fired from her job at government contractor Akima LLC.
The photo was taken by a White House photographer as the president was leaving his golf course in Sterling, Va.
She told the Huffington Post that after the photo surfaced, her bosses told her she had violated the company's social media policy because she had used the photo as her profile picture.

(2,150 posts)Briskman, who worked in marketing and communications at Akima for just over six months, said she emphasized to the executives that she wasnt on the job when the incident happened and that her social media pages dont mention her employer. They told her that because Akima was a government contractor, the photo could hurt their business, she said.
Virginia is an employment-at-will state, meaning employers can fire people anytime and for any reason. But Briskman said whats been particularly infuriating is that a male colleague kept his job after recently posting lewd comments on his Facebook page that featured Akima LLC as his cover photo. She said this colleague was reprimanded for calling someone a fucking Libtard asshole on Facebook, but was allowed to delete the post and keep his job.

(25,357 posts)It sounds like she was past her probationary period.
My husband works in a managerial position in Texas. It is not unionized.
Yet, when he has had to fire people it is still alot of work. He can't just fire someone for flipping the bird at a motorcade. His employees are all under contract.

(24,703 posts)she is on her own time and in her own space----------after all there is a first amendment...............
And as for this, it says that your organizational name spent $100.00 to the trump campaign, you spent $100.00

So what is your profile there Akima LLC, I mean what is your Business Ethics and Code of Conduct ---------------supporting a sexual predator of women...................you gave him and his organization $100.00 to condone his actions, while he was out in public, after all $100.00 is nothing when it comes to woman, and there rights to be protected ----------right
Your double standard should be called out, you donated to a man that said and did this to a woman......................as some conquest of a joke, bravado or some malignant accomplishment...............

When he travels to Europe, there will be tens of thousands present to bip him the flird, as well as shine their moons to him. It has been reported that even those who belong to the extreme far right in France do not like Trump.

....
Because Briskman was in charge of the firms social media presence during her six-month tenure there, she recently flagged something that did link her company to some pretty ugly stuff. ... As she was monitoring Facebook this summer, she found a public comment by a senior director at the company in an otherwise civil discussion by one of his employees about Black Lives Matter. ... Youre a f------ Libtard a------, the director injected, using his profile that clearly and repeatedly identifies himself as an employee of the firm.
In fact, the person he aimed that comment at was so offended by the intrusion into the conversation and the coarse nature of it that he challenged the director on representing Akima that way. ... So Briskman flagged the exchange to senior management.
Did the man, a middle-aged executive who had been with the company for seven years, get the old section 4.3 boot? ... Nope. He cleaned up the comment, spit-shined his public profile and kept on trucking at work. ... But the single mother of two teens who made an impulsive gesture while on her bike, on her day off? ... Adios, amiga. ... Her mistake, said Bethesda lawyer Bradley Shear, who specializes in social media issues, was her honesty.
....
Her bosses told her they do support her First Amendment rights. But they wanted her to be professional, she said. ... Does Briskman regret that middle finger, that reflexive moment that wasnt all pussy hat and protest signs, that wasnt calculated resistance but rather a totally relatable, plain-old, working woman, living-my-life, what-the-heck-is-going-on-in-our-world reaction? ... Nope. Id do it again, she said. ... Resist, sister.

(45,447 posts)so this could be payback for this liberal woman who didn't toe the company's conservative line.

(1,018 posts)I worked for the federal govt and Im pretty sure that could have been me flipping off the POTUS and I wouldnt have lost my job. The govt isnt going to take this contract away, or not award future ones, for this reason.
I once had to make a map for George W Bush and thought of doing a special watermark just for him. I didnt, but Id feel perfectly fine giving him the finger in my off hours.

(25,357 posts)Also who's to say that she was flipping the bird at Trump? Couldn't she claim that a vehicle in the motorcade got in the bike lane or something. (I know this probably didn't happen, but that is usually the main reason bikers flip the bird.)
