Officials Expect DeVos To Resign From Trump Administration

Source: SALON

Thomas Toch, director of independent education think tank FutureEd, told Politico that DeVos was ignorant of the job's constraints when she accepted it and insiders are already preparing for her to vacate the position.
"She can’t fill her senior staff slots," he said. "Morale is terrible at the department."
DeVos was roundly criticized for her lack of basic knowledge about education policy during the confirmation hearing process. She blames President Donald Trump's transition team, claiming she was "undercoached."
One doubts most nominees for education secretary need to be coached not to cite grizzly bears as a reason for guns in schools.
"I’ll tell you, in Washington education circles, the conversation is already about the post-DeVos landscape, because the assumption is she won’t stay long," Toch told Politico. "I think she’s been probably one of the most ineffective people to ever hold the job.”

Bennett was infamous for his ideological purges at DoE; it was under Bennett that the push to impose vouchers and privatize schools really got rolling.

In the end his Vegas gambling outings and orgies got him, so I guess there is a little justice in the world.

One of my College of Ed professors was part of a point/ counter-point editorial series in a Detroit newspaper with Devos years ago. He told this story then, she was known because her husband ran for gov. and lost to Granholm. He told the story of how Devos didn't understand why ALL of Michigan's students were not above average. Let that settle in for a second. It was as if she thought we lived on Lake Wobegon or something. As he was a math teacher for years, he attempted to explain that by definition this was impossible. I'm sure she still didn't get it. I picture a dog looking at a speaker with her held tilted.

Now that's the kind of person we need running our Dept. of Ed.

Mon Nov 6, 2017, 06:59 PM

That guy needs to go to jail PERIOD, he alone has set back our environmental cause 40-50 years, people will die because of him.

I worked in the oil industry in Alaska for years, the industry is overseen by the US Coast Guard, the EPA and the ADEC (Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation), I found they were fair in their treatment of the industry as long as you followed the rules and put foreword your best effort to do so.

I've seen an EPA Person out in our parking lot in the dead of winter using the ubiquitous stainless steel soup spoon digging out a stain in the ice for a sample to test.

It was really hard to keep a straight face as I told her that it wasn't a petroleum product, she replied that she would take samples where she wanted to, I mentioned that it was nowhere near the tank farm or the truck loading rack or any source of petroleum, she ignored me and kept on taking samples.

I started to say something and she held up her hand to stop me, I walked away trying to keep from laughing.

They were COFFEE STAINS in the ice from the office workers throwing cold coffee away as the sink was frozen in the office.

We have gone from people who are stewards of our environment and who actually care about dangerous substances and our exposure to them to having a "leader" of that organization throw all their hard work and the progress they've made in the last 60 years in the trash.

That human stain needs to go to jail, it would be a travesty of justice if he doesn't.

They want to funnel taxpayer $$$ to private for profit schools, denigrate public school teachers and decimate public schools, and then want to shut the department down altogether and throw education back to the states. The GOP does not want an educated public. Betsy was perfect for the job.

I for one, am proud of the great education I received in public schools.

Everyday I am amazed how well I was taught grammar and the lot.

Not enough is being done to improve our educational system, and it seems to be that it used to be better as far as basic understanding of things like the English language etc. Just listen to the way millennials and young people speak these days!

It is a fucking embarrassment! (*Rump is no better by any means)

We need somebody dedicated to making the students in the US competitive with the rest of the remaining civilized and intelligent world.

It is a good way to create better jobs that require intellectual skills, instead of having to "import" skilled individuals with better education to run our tech and other modern companies.

If the current administration was not so mind numbingly stupid about everything, and I mean everything, they might realize this.
