A mayor in Ohio who left the Democratic Party last year to endorse Donald Trump for president has gone down in defeat.
.............................................................. he was defeated by independent candidate Michael Gammella.
As the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, Coyne lost by more than five percentage points to Gammella, a former city council president and United Auto Workers representative.
Coyne made headlines in 2016 when he ditched the Democratic Party to back Trumps candidacy. He has so far shown no remorse for his decision this year, and he even appeared at an October fundraiser in Cleveland alongside Donald Trump Jr.
In a recent interview with the Plain Dealer, Coyne said that Trump had done a lot to transform the GOP into a party representing blue-collar white people, which he claimed were the people he was trying to represent as mayor.................................

Ousted Coyne seems to be quite cozy with the Trumps.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Donald Trump Jr. is slated to appear as a featured guest at a Cleveland fundraiser later this month alongside Brook Park Mayor Tom Coyne.
.................................
....................................
"I cannot speak for President Trump and his family, but I know they greatly value the courage it took for an elected Democrat, Mayor Tom Coyne, to switch parties to support Donald Trump for president," Frost said. "I'm pleased that we are able to help them express that gratitude by hosting when Donald Jr. comes to Cleveland later this month to honor Mayor Coyne."
.......................................
Coyne is a lifelong Democrat who was elected to a second stint as Brook Park mayor in 2013. But he switched parties last year to become an official elector for Trump, and was one of Trump's most visible local supporters last year.
In September 2016, Coyne hosted a labor round-table in Brook Park which Trump attended. Coyne also spoke at a Trump campaign rally at the I-X Center the following month. In June of this year, Coyne met Vice President Mike Pence on the runway at Burke Lakefront Airport when Pence visited Cleveland to promote Trump's effort, which has since stalled, to repeal and replace Obamacare......................................
