Eric Trump's Brother-In-Law Named Chief Of Staff Of An Energy Department Office

Source: Newsweek

President Donald Trump has hired his son's brother-in-law to oversee an Energy Department office that apparently is dismantling some of former President Barack Obama's climate change initiatives.

Lara Trump's brother, Kyle Yunaska, has been named chief of staff of the Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis, Environmental & Energy Publishing reported on Wednesday. Lara Trump is married to Eric Trump, the president's third child.

As chief of staff, Yunaska will advise Executive Director Sean Cunningham and his deputy Carol Battershell, according to the Energy Department website. But here's where it gets interesting: Under Obama, the Energy Policy and Systems Analysis office oversaw initiatives to fight climate change, but it's unclear if that approach will continue. In his prior job as a lobbyist, Cunningham reportedly helped develop a directive to subsidize coal and nuclear power.

Yunaska was promoted into his new role from his original post as assistant to the secretary on the “beachhead” team of temporary political appointees in the Energy Department, which he joined in February.

Here are More than 1,000 Officials Trump has Quietly Deployed Across the Government

By Al Shaw and Derek Kravitz, ProPublica, March 8, 2017

Updated August 31, 2017

While President Trump has not moved to fill many jobs that require Senate confirmation, he has quietly installed hundreds of officials to serve as his eyes and ears at every major federal agency.

In March, ProPublica obtained a list of 400 of these political appointees. We have added to that list since then and now have more than 1,000 Trump administration employees hired through July. They include dozens of former lobbyists and Trump campaign staffers. Related story »

If you have any information about members of the Trump beachhead teams or their roles in the agencies, contact us at beachhead@propublica.org or via Signal at (573) 239-7440. Here is a guide for how to leak to ProPublica.

“5 U.S. Code § 3110 - Employment of relatives; restrictions (Dec. 16, 1967)

A public official may not appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to a civilian position in the agency in which he is serving or over which he exercises jurisdiction or control any individual who is a relative of the public official. An individual may not be appointed, employed, promoted, or advanced in or to a civilian position in an agency if such appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement has been advocated by a public official, serving in or exercising jurisdiction or control over the agency, who is a relative of the individual.”

8. Side note: Newsweek really need to change their web design - their video shows a headbutt
Thu Nov 9, 2017, 12:12 PM
Nov 2017

I followed the link, and the top thing on the page (under the headline) is of a man headbutting another, and then hitting him with a stick. They mutter something I think is Italian (it's marked "Roma" - Rome, or the Roma people? and RAI 2, which is an Italian channel). And that's it. What it has to do with any Newsweek story, let alone this one, who knows? It's a bit jarring to be presented with violence when you're expecting a story about a government appointment.

I use NoScript, so I don't see these things.

Is it an ad, or an actual video placed there by Newsweek?

they follow it with dashcam footage of a police officer shooting someone - but at least they put up explanatory text before it begins. Still nothing to do with the article, of course. Their next video after that is about a rhino.
