A Republican congressman is calling for Robert Mueller to be fired

Gaetz says that if Mueller is allowed to investigate the Trump White House, we risk a coup détat

President Donald Trump and the White House may be scared of Robert Mueller III, but that isn't stopping one of their Republican colleagues in Congress from making bold claims about the special counsel.
"We are at risk of a coup d'état in this country if we allow an unaccountable person with no oversight to undermine the duly-elected President of the United States," Rep. Matt Gaetz declared during a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. "That is precisely what is happening right now with the indisputable conflicts of interest that are present with Mr. Mueller and others at the Department of Justice."
Gaetz based his assertions about Mueller on the fact that the former FBI director served under President Barack Obama in 2010. That was the year in which the Obama administration permitted a Russian company to acquire a Canadian energy corporation that had uranium operations in the United States. As the Mueller probe has closed in on the Trump administration, many on the right have attempted to deflect attention from that scandal by focusing on this so-called scandal.
Gaetz was among them, even commenting in a statement on Friday that because Mueller presided at that time, "his impartiality is hopelessly compromised. He must step down immediately."

(9,426 posts)combine their efforts and convince the orange ass to resign? I would prefer to see him behind bars, but hey, we will take whatever we can get to be rid of him. They seem to have forgotten that Mueller had the blessings of both sides when he began this investigation. Well respected was the term that was used.

Not sure if RUMP is smart enough to take that deal.

(23,099 posts)Yep, he's the type that wants to turn us into a dictatorship of the oligarchs and the tealiban. No birth control, no welfare, no medical care, create a generation of serfs that will work for any amount of $ because they have no education or training and will die young to be replaced by even cheaper serfs.

(31,169 posts)Registered voters as of May 2017, according to wiki:
Republican -- 285,314, or, 52.80%
Democratic -- 139,194, or, 25.70%
No Party Affiliation -- 114,431, or, 21.20%
I think the party intentionally digs up asshats with little to fear, like Gaetz, for statements like these.

(19,201 posts)of getting this ass-clown defeated by a Democrat. The panhandle of Florida is one of the most RED places on Earth. I think the best we can do is win control of the House and marginalize this turd-puff so he can't do anymore damage with his big, stupid mouth.

(19,201 posts)We already experienced the coup détat when Trump and his Russian pals fixed the Electoral College for the Moron in Chief. What we want to do now is regain control of the government they stole, because Trump's "government" is most certainly out of control. A real President doesn't govern for 30% of the American people, he/she governs for all. At least that's my interpretation of how the government is supposed to work.
And welcome to DU, Max!

He didnt have his license suspended for a year when he refused the breath test as Florida law dictates. And he didnt have that refusal used against him in a criminal proceeding. Charges against Gaetz were dismissed after events that included, among other things, the forced resignation of the arresting officer.

(19,201 posts)I apologize. There are wonderful exceptions to every rule.
From my experiences in the panhandle - and I've spent quite a bit of time there, and passing through there - there are some really t-h-i-c-k people living there. My asshole cousin lives in Baker, Fl along with the rest of the anti-MENSA bikers from hell. I visit as few times as is humanly possible without pissing the rest of the family off (my family, with the exception of myself and my daughter, are all Republicans). I'm never so happy as the minute I leave Baker and head north again.
As long as you can live comfortably there, and it's home, it's the right place for you. Maybe if I lived there I could get to like the area, but over-exposure to too many redneck morans always seems to ruin my mellow. I hope that makes sense.
Take care.

(16,296 posts)I write letters to the conservative paper here from time to time, casting stones into the ocean so to speak and send off a few dollars to the local Dem party. Hopefully, it will change - but religion and politics and bigotry runs deep here. If it wasn't for the sugar white beaches, great weather and low cost of living I might think about moving.
