Puerto Rico hit by new power outage after line repaired by Whitefish fails: report

Source: The Hill

BY BRANDON CARTER - 11/09/17 05:05 PM EST

Puerto Rico was hit with a new power outage Thursday after a major line failure left several cities, including the capital of San Juan, without power.

BuzzFeed News reported the line, which runs from Cambalache to Manatí, failed on Thursday, reducing Puerto Rico’s power generation capacity by 25 percent. Prior to the line’s failure, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) said the territory’s power generation was at 43 percent capacity.

The power outage affected several major Puerto Rican cities, including San Juan. A reporter for The New York Times said Thursday that the lights had gone out at Puerto Rico’s federal emergency command center.

El Nuevo Dia, Puerto Rico’s largest newspaper, reported Thursday afternoon that the line was repaired by PREPA technicians.

For the amount of their bid. I know that Whitefish got this with no bid.

If the awardee fails to complete the project the government cashes in the bond to cover hiring someone else to do it.

Can you imagine living through this? I'll be some of the 43% who'd finally got power wanted to cry. At least the hottest weather is mostly past, but it's still mid-upper 80s with the usual high humidity. Thank goodness they got Whitefish out as soon as they did.

And the other guy holding the other end in Florida plugged it into an outside outlet of a house located in Key West.

The first guy's phone charger lit up, so they called it good.

Mind, they used heavy duty extension cords from Home Depot all plugged end to end, and only high-quality electrical tape to hold it all together, so it's not their fault it failed.
