Zimbabwes Military, in Apparent Takeover, Says It Has Custody of Mugabe
Source: New York Times
HARARE, Zimbabwe Zimbabwes military said early Wednesday that it had taken custody of President Robert Mugabe, the worlds oldest head of state and one of Africas longest-serving leaders, in what increasingly appeared to be a military takeover in the southern African nation.
After apparently seizing the state broadcaster, ZBC, two uniformed officers said in a short predawn announcement that the situation in our country has moved to another level. While denying that the military had seized power, they said that Mr. Mugabe and his family are safe and sound, and their security is guaranteed.
We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice, said the main speaker, who was identified as Maj. Gen. S. B. Moyo, the armys chief of staff.
General Moyo who was not widely known to the public but who was considered close to the commander of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces, Gen. Constantine Chiwenga warned that any provocation will be met with an appropriate response.

(24,341 posts)This appears to be targeted at his wife and her supporters
Mnangagwa, the number 2 in Zimbabwe and considered successor was replaced along with several of his allies. This was believed by ZDF Commander Chiwenga as a way to clear the way for his wife, Grace, to succeed him.
Mnangagwa, while not the best person available, is a better successor than Grace, as Grace tends to be similar to il douche (trump) in her love of all things stylish, pomp, ceremony, etc. She also assaulted a woman while she was in South Africa. The police were unable to arrest her because of diplomatic immunity.

In another very important development, Emmerson Mnangagwa, the vice-president fired by Mugabe, is back in the country. He flew into Manyame airbase this morning. Hes always had a lot of support in the army and its very likely hell be taking over as the de facto head of government, with Mugabe, 93, as a figurehead.
