(3,194 posts)I realize the death penalty is not very popular around these parts, but he was one example of someone whose life should have been extinguished long ago.
The families of the dead will be a little bit more at peace finally.

(51,615 posts)since he grew up in them. I am glad they did not execute him for that very reason. He deserved to suffer and death would be his easy way out. I was wondering why they are showing "Manson, the Prison Tapes" on the American Heroes Channel right now.

(4,668 posts)just before I woke up. I saw through the window of the White House, clearly, Donald Trump and a couple of his aides wearing gorilla suits with their gorilla-heads in their hands, like Disneyland characters taking a smoke break. It was one of those dreams that was so real that, upon waking, I wondered if I'd really seen it, haha. I usually forget dreams, too, but this one was memorable.
Have you ever kept a pen and pad near your bed and written notes on your dreams in the moments before they faded? You may be dreaming more than you think.

(90,778 posts)Course, that can carry its own risk.
You don't want to attract the attention of a sociopath - neither through positive nor negative reinforcement. Bad either way. Makes it a danger to avoid or engage. That's a scary thought, considering you never know until you do.

(9,894 posts)He was a product of his environment. Not saying that excuses him, but it bears remembering. That environment still exists and still produces killers whose body count is equal to or greater than Manson's.

(16,202 posts)and do not commit mass murder. He was a freak. That you really think I would not realize we still have conditions that help foster these monsters (just reading about Dylan Roof yesterday) is odd although not unexpected with written posts on a political site. Freak, monster, homicidal maniac.

(18,837 posts)And blessings to every surviving family member and friend of his victims, who may very well come to then end of their own lives without a complete sense of closure, but may hopefully now have a good measure of peace and healing.
You don't get over a monster by the monster's passing. You find peace in the fact that he's now where he belongs, and has belonged since his reign of terror. But fully getting over who he was and what he did is impossible.
No more 3 hots and a cot. No more endless media coverage. No more free medical care. No more "behind bars" interviews where he tells the reporter he can "get to them," even behind bars.
No more. He went out in the most appropriate way...rotting from the inside out.

Ironically I had never seen Sharon Tate in anything until I finally watched "Valley of the Dolls" on cable a few years ago. I preferred Patty Duke's performance but one wonders where Tate's career would have gone had she not been a victim of a madman (although.... Polanski... ).

TRUMP: I am not putting anybody on a moral plane, what Im saying is this: you had a group on one side and a group on the other, and they came at each other with clubs and it was vicious and horrible and it was a horrible thing to watch, but there is another side. There was a group on this side, you can call them the left. Youve just called them the left, that came violently attacking the other group. So you can say what you want, but that's the way it is.
REPORTER: You said there was hatred and violence on both sides?
TRUMP: I do think there is blame yes, I think there is blame on both sides. You look at, you look at both sides. I think theres blame on both sides, and I have no doubt about it, and you don't have any doubt about it either. And, and, and, and if you reported it accurately, you would say.

The sad thing is that if this happened today we would all be aghast for about 2 days and then it would just become another mass killing along with 800 other mass killings each year.
