Trump will declare North Korea a state sponsor of terror

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 11/20/17 11:53 AM EST

President Trump said Monday he will designate North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism, a move designed to further isolate the rouge nation for its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Trump’s announcement comes days after his return from a five-nation tour of Asia, which focused on curbing Pyongyang’s nuclear ambitions. White House officials telegraphed the move before Trump’s departure.

North Korea was taken off the U.S. list of state sponsors of terror in 2008 during nuclear negotiations with the George W. Bush administration.

Trump puts North Korea back on state sponsors of terrorism list to escalate pressure over nuclear weapons

By David Nakamura November 20 at 12:06 PM

President Trump on Monday announced that he has re-designated North Korea as a state sponsor of terror, a move aimed at increasing pressure on Pyongyang a decade after the George W. Bush administration removed the rogue nation from the list.

Trump made his decision public during a brief photo op at a Cabinet meeting, calling it "a very critical step" that "should've happened a long time ago." The president cited assassinations by dictator Kim Jong Un's regime carried out on foreign soil, as well as the treatment of American college student Otto Warmbier, who died in June days after he was released in a coma by the North after spending 17 months in captivity.

Trump vowed that Pyongyang will face further sanctions in the near future and that this will be the “highest level of sanctions by the time it’s finished.” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders amplified the message on Twitter.

The White House had signaled during Trump's recent Asia trip that the president was likely to make the designation. During the trip, Trump told reporters that he plans to decide “very soon” whether to put the North back on the state sponsor of terrorism list. The North spent 10 years on that list before being removed in 2008 by the Bush administration for meeting nuclear inspection requirements. Pyongyang later violated the agreement.

Iran, Sudan and Syria also are on the list.

The Dotard must start new twitter war with North Korea to maintain American anxiety, fear and distraction.

LaVar Ball and Marshawn Lynch just aren't threatening enough.

Then we won't pay attention to the golfing we pay for and schmoozing guests who pay him directly.

This is the very first time I've heard of NK sponsoring terrorism. That's weird.

This kinda reminds me of when Coleen Rowley blew the whistle on the FBI missing accused 9/11 hijacker Zacarias Moussaoui. She testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 6, 2002. At roughly the same time Cheney started the ball rolling on Saddam having WMD and terrorist ties:

"We are greatly concerned about any possible linkup between terrorists and regimes that have or seek weapons of mass destruction...In the case of Saddam Hussein, we've got a dictator who is clearly pursuing and already possesses some of these weapons. A regime that hates America and everything we stand for must never be permitted to threaten America with weapons of mass destruction."

- Dick Cheney, Vice President
Detroit, Fund-Raiser
6/20/2002

At the time I actually thought Cheney was just trying to steal the headlines from Coleen Rowley and change the subject. As it turned out, he had other plans. Is Cheney currently advising the White House?
