National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster mocked President Trumps intelligence at a private dinner with a powerful tech CEO, according to five sources with knowledge of the conversation.
Over a July dinner with Oracle CEO Safra Catz who has been mentioned as a candidate for several potential administration jobs McMaster bluntly trashed his boss, said the sources, four of whom told BuzzFeed News they heard about the exchange directly from Catz. The top national security official dismissed the president variously as an idiot and a dope with the intelligence of a kindergartner, the sources said.
A sixth source who was not familiar with the details of the dinner told BuzzFeed News that McMaster had made similarly derogatory comments about Trumps intelligence to him in private, including that the president lacked the necessary brainpower to understand the matters before the National Security Council.
Both Oracle and the Trump administration heatedly denied the comments that Catz later recounted. Actual participants in the dinner deny that General McMaster made any of the comments attributed to him by anonymous sources. Those false comments represent the diametric opposite of General McMaster's actual views, said Michael Anton, a spokesman for the National Security Council.

He simply has not reached the mental age at which a child learns to have empathy and compassion for others. His vocabulary is repetitive and at about the level of a pre-school, pre-literate child.
So be it.

They mentioned the Argentine president's visit, which took place on April 27. Amazing how Trump stabbed Macri in the back with the 72% biodiesel tariff (Argentina's largest export to the U.S.), given that they've been personal friends since at least 1985.
With friends like Trump...

(60,010 posts)The Russian sanctions caused Putin/Russia to lose $ in the billions. Trump's job was to kill the sanctions.
Congress voted for them, but Trump refused to sign the bill, AND Tillerson closed the office in the State Dept, that implements sanctions.
Russia/Syria getting together, with no interference from USA.
Syria was one of the ME countries on Cheney's hit list, way back when he was in power.
We did not topple Syria, not for lack of trying.
NOW....
Russia, which holds a military advantage in Syria, appears to want to bypass the UN process and focus on a solution drawn up with the other regional guarantors, Iran and Turkey.
Money, trade, oil/gas, and pipelines are what is at stake in the ME, and Russia is very active there now.

(15,289 posts)TPM has an editor's blog post up about this story. Marshall reports Cohen-Watnick, ally of Devin Nunes and Flynn, and who McMaster spent months trying to boot off the NSC is behind the story. Apparently after McMaster finally managed to fire him, Cohen-Watnick landed at Oracle's lobbying opeartion in DC. It just so happens that this incident took place in the very same building where Cohen-Watnick now works.
In my experience most generals are smart, savvy and "political" enough to keep their views to themselves except around their very closest confidants. I'd have doubts McMaster used such language to describe Trump regardless.

(32,691 posts)Of course McMaster is forced to deny the rumor now, but does anyone doubt he said it? I don't, we've all said the same or worse about Cheeto. Generals don't usually make political comments for the media anyway, so my guess is somebody repeated a private conversation.
The DC swamp is so full of snakes that it could be anybody, even Flynn. Where is Flynn anyway? I thought his indictment was coming up.

(15,289 posts)McMaster didn't get 3 stars by being tactless. I seriously doubt he'd have said anything like this to anyone he didn't know very well and trust.
