White House Makes Reporters Give Thanks Before Asking Briefing Questions

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published NOVEMBER 20, 2017 3:41 PM

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday told reporters that before they could ask her a question, they would have to list things for which they are thankful.

“This will be our last press briefing before the Thanksgiving holiday in this room,” Sanders said at the start of the daily briefing. “So I want to share a few things that I’m thankful for and I think it would be nice for you guys to do so as well before asking your questions.”

Sanders said it is “no secret” that she is “clearly very thankful” for the White House press corps, as well as her family, faith, first responders, members of the U.S. military and “the incredible privilege of serving this president and the American people.”

“So this is how it’s going to work today, since I’m here and I get to call on you,” she said. “If you want to ask a question, I think it’s only fair, since I’ve shared what I’m thankful for, that you start off with what you’re thankful for. So anybody want to be first on what they’re thankful for?”

Sanders called on American Urban Radio Networks reporter April Ryan first.

“I’m thankful for life. I’m thankful for my children. I’m thankful for 20 years in this job,” Ryan said. “I’m thankful to be able to talk to and question you every single day.”

“I feel the gratefulness there,” Sanders replied.

“Now my question,” Ryan pressed on. “I hope you felt the passion of my thankfulness.”

That's like sticking someone in the eye, probably went over Huckabee's head...................

Who the Hell does she think she is? She is always on a high horse power trip and condescending. As I have said for 10 months (as well as Keith Olbermann) The press should boycott all briefings. All that she does is lie and treat them like crap. I mute her every time she come on. The press should tell her to drop dead and leave RT and Fux alone in the room with her.

We should all send that very same sentiment to her on her Twitter account. @PressSec

There..just did. I would love to see her bombarded with that sentiment.

She's got no business nor the right to make demands of the press in such a manner. Her extortion is nothing more than her pushing her beliefs on others.

Not everyone celebrates Turkey Day and not everyone celebrates it in the manner she does.

Around Xmas, is she going to tell the press they have to say "Merry Christmas" first before they can do their job?

Fuck that shit. Fuck her. And fuck those who defend her actions in any way.

at Sanders command that they must perform a stupid trick, like dogs, before she would let them ask a question. Not one reporter stood up against her self serving demand to 'give thanks'. No one said something like, "I'm working here, exercising my 1st amendment rights, and my job description does not include saccharin, personal testimonials. Now, my question to you is... "

As a viewer, watching the reporters fall into the same trap again, I was humiliated and embarrassed by that order to "give thanks" because was demeaning to the press, those people whom we rely on to give us information and hold those in power accountable. Everyone of them who agreed to her game should be ashamed of themselves letting themselves be cowed and bullied into doing her bidding before they were allowed to ask her any questions. Pathetic.

I just know that would rankle Huckabee's sense of false piety, an opportunity I'd really be thankful for.

I also believe Huckabee is this close to making the press corps bow their heads in prayer before they get a question.

'And why are you thankful for Roy Moore?'

"Because the useless bastard couldn't get elected dogcatcher after all the shit that's come out about him, and he's going to hand Jeff Sessions' Senate seat to the Democrats - something we should all be thankful for."
