In recent days, President Donald Trump has engaged in a public feud with sports dad LaVar Ball stemming from Balls son and two other UCLA basketball players arrests in China for shoplifting. Trump has taken issue with Balls insistence that the president didnt do that much to get his son released by Chinese authorities, leading to numerous Trump tweets indicating that the players should have been left in jail.
These tweets, along with Trumps continued complaints about black NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, have led many to observe that the president has a tendency to take aim at high-profile minorities. During an appearance on ABCs This Week, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) was asked his opinion on Trumps attacks and whether he felt the president was specifically targeting minorities.
The president is a good counterpuncher, Scott told host Martha Raddatz. He doesnt seem to discriminate from my perspective. He attacks anyone he perceives or believes is attacking him or the country. After Scott said that Trump should have been thanked by the UCLA athletes without having to ask for it, Raddatz pressed him again on whether he believed Trump wasnt singling out minorities.
I will tell you, from my perspective, the answer is no, Scott responded. Theres no doubt that if he were singling out minorities in the basketball situation, he singled them out in a positive way.

UPDATE:
GOP Senator: I Want To Be On Right Side Of History When It Comes To Moore
By ESME CRIBB Published NOVEMBER 26, 2017 10:09 AM
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) on Sunday said he wants to be on the side of right when history writes the story about Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, who multiple women have accused of sexual misconduct.
It is pretty clear to me that the best thing that Roy Moore can do for the country is to move on, Scott said on ABC News This Week.
He said the allegations against Moore are still very strong and credible, and the denial has been weak.
In my opinion, and in the opinion of many Republicans and conservatives in the Senate, it is time for us to turn the page, because it is not about partisan politics, Scott said. It is not about electing Republicans versus Democrats. This is about the character of our country. I want to be on the side of right when history writes the story.

(16,927 posts)How can ANYONE, let alone a minority person, go on an interview and spew such BS with a straight face or a throat full of barf? Also, how can you even face yourself in a mirror - or sleep at night?

(25,183 posts)We heard all the references to Lyin' Ted, Crying Chuck (Schumer), "Little" Mario, and "low energy" Jeb, along with all the insults to Democratic candidates during the election, plus many more Caucasians targeted by Trump.
He's an equal opportunity bully. I think he really gives zero thought to the race or gender of his targets.

(16,786 posts)not the rule.
Trump was running against these people for the GOP nomination. Their race had nothing to do with it. Nor did they say much about Trump's Obama Birther rant that spanned over 5 years.

(25,183 posts)that anybody who opposes Trump, in even the slightest way, stands a chance of being mocked and attacked by him. I don't think he really cares about party, ethnicity (other than Mexicans, who he clearly detests as a group) or gender when he's flinging his schoolyard bully attacks.
I don't recall any specific references to race when he was going after the NFL players. Yes, a large proportion of them are African-American, but I don't think that made it into his calculation. He's attacked the entertainment industry, too, and it's predominantly white.
