Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) ripped President Trump in an interview, saying he doesn't think the president has "principles and beliefs."
I dont agree with the way hes conducting his presidency, obviously, McCain said during an interview with Esquire.
Hes an individual that unfortunately is not anchored by a set of principles. I think hes a person who takes advantage of situations." McCain said Trump was "successful" as a builder and an entrepreneur. "But I dont think he has the fundamental underpinnings of principles and beliefs, he said.
He added: I dont think there was any doubt about his views toward me. But Im a loyal Republican.

UPDATE 1:
McCain: Trumps Firing Of Comey A Comedy Of Errors
By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published NOVEMBER 27, 2017 10:06 AM
When President Donald Trump decided to fire James Comey as FBI director in the midst of the Russia probe, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was stumped.
He told Esquire in an interview conducted in May and published on Sunday that he found Trumps decision hard to comprehend. The senator said that the way the firing was handled was also bizarre. Trump sent a staffer to hand deliver a letter to the FBI informing Comey that he was fired, but Comey was not in his office. Comey first learned the news when he saw it on a television in the background while he was giving a speech.
Its just a comedy of errors, McCain told Esquire.

UPDATE 2:
McCain on Clinton's memoir: 'Whats the f---ing point?'
BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 11/27/17 09:51 AM EST
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in a new interview criticized former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for writing her memoir so soon after the 2016 election.
Whats the f---ing point? Keep the fight up? McCain asked in an interview with Esquire.
History will judge that campaign, and its always a period of time before they do. Youve got to move on. This is Hillarys problem right now: She doesnt have anything to do.
Clinton published her memoir, What Happened, in September, less than a year after her surprise loss to President Trump.

(6,254 posts)Simply put, Trump is just an awful human being with no redeeeming qualities. I can usually find something good to say about everyone, but with Trump there is nothing good about him. Some say he is a good father, but with the exception of Baron and Ivanka, I believe he would throw the rest of his family under the bus to save his own skin.

(5,914 posts)I'll leave it to you to Google the firsthand tales of how he treated Don Jr. in college. And he spends zero time with Barron and has never had any relationship with Tiffany. His three oldest kids are just as cretinous as he is.
I wish Hillary had never said that at the debate. It was patently false. She should have said something like, "He has a marvelous singing voice". He wouldn't have denied that.
Like you, I can ALWAYS find something good to say about everyone. I can even come up with a few positives regarding the Shrub and Ronald Reagan. But when it comes to Trump, I got absolutely nothin'.

(59,504 posts)In his case, it is not that McCain has no principles or that he does not often live up to them, it is that many of his principles are completely the opposite of the ones we have.

(59,504 posts)ie: He greatly cares about honor ... but he was one of the Keating 5.
Where he was a "maverick" was on things like Mccain/Feingold, which was partly motivated by the need to "atone" for his role in Keating 5. Before he lost to Obama, he was also good on climate change and immigration (he was Kennedy's cosponsor in 2005). On both of those issues, he likely changed due to fear of being primaried once the tea party gained power in the party - so he was not a profile in courage on these issues as he abandoned them when he thought there would be a high political cost.
However, he consistently believed in small government - meaning he was unlikely to favor anything that expands the role of government - as ACA did. Note that anti-corruption, his version of a climate bill, and immigration are not in conflict with that principle.

(28,831 posts)He's a hypocrite. He wants everyone to think he's a man of the people. But he's a money greedy corporate Republican. I get sick of the hero crap. That may have been then, but it isn't like that now. He and his thugs are gutting the world for money. MCCain is right there, supporting and voting with them. That is no hero.
His horrible daughter is worse, and her husband is WORSER! (red-neck spellin'). She proudly proclaims her husband is more conservative (ie, worse) than she is.

(9,426 posts)in a position to declare another person as having no principles and beliefs. Remember the Keating Five? Remember the first Mrs. McCain who was thrown under the bus when miss moneybags came along? He allowed Palin to rile up the racists, and when asked to stop her said "But then she will turn on ME" So on it went. He has no core beliefs, apart from making himself rich at the expense of everyone else. Vile little "man" He has mined that POW story for too many years. The other POW's did not call him Songbird for no reason. He is upset that he never made it into the WH, yet two bird brains like Dubya and Two Scoops Donnie did.

(24,710 posts)I have a question on principles and beliefs for you..............do you want to give this psychopathic malignant narcissistic sociopath a "victory" or you going to have this asshole sit behind is big old desk, with those small fucking hands of a sexual predator, sign into law a bill that will force states to eliminate health care and other vital programs for children?
Will you have any principles, that if this traitor is given a continued chance to have constituents in you state and around the country, a lot of them are on Medicare and Social Security benefits that they have paid into for years to protect them from the street corner from having a card board sign, saying I just got fucked because I am a middle class and working poor, can you give anything?
But your a "Loyal Republican" right Johnnie, so your going to fuck everyone because of your fucking principles and beliefs, and have a narcissistic psychopathic asshole sign a law to create death panels, and the creation of third world state of the haves and the have not's........................so in closing Johnnie------------your an enabler of the principle and beliefs of a narcissistic malignant psychopathic traitor, and you also are a narcissistic sociopaths liar of principles and beliefs-----------------you should vote no on the tax bill that millions of your constitutes and millions of people in the middle class will pay

(10,749 posts)based only on the OP, not the underlying interviews.
Basically, McCain is saying that the buffoon-in-chief is a sociopath. That was clear in 1980, 1990, 2000, 2015, and every day since his said he would run for president. History will not be kind.
Re Clinton - Okay, maybe he has a point. But. . . everyone writes memoirs, about one's life, about parts of one's life. Heck, Senator M, you've done it several times. So give that a rest, hey? As for she doesn't have anything to do, that's BS. First of all, she's speaking out on issues of relevance to women as well as to those of us living in the reality-based universe. And, let's face it, she could walk on water and then turn that water into wine, and it would be considered political grandstanding. So, John, I know you've had a long life, and you're a war hero, but you seem to have lost the ability to know when to STFU.

(2,559 posts)I'll say one thing: Hillary is a much better writer than Bill. And her book gives a clear and honest appraisal of what did happen. One may disagree with her take on outside forces, but one can't argue that she hasn't presented her side of the story very well.
Why should she wait? She's got the book out of the way, and now she CAN move on. Perhaps not in an elected or appointed government function, but there likely is plenty she can do with the foundation as well as other things.
And I believe her when she says she's enjoying the opportunity to be with her family, her grandchildren, something that probably wouldn't be as available had she ascended to the presidency.

(4,341 posts)It just bothers me when people say "I am a loyal Republican", or "I am a loyal Democrat"...What about being loyal to the country?
This party-loyalty thing has to end, there are good republicans and there are good democrats, yes more good democrats, but they all have to be taken into consideration. To be loyal to a party just shows you don't have principles of your own, that you are a follower, that your beliefs are dictated by someone else and you give very little thought to the benefits and consequences of your choices as dictated by the party.
The sheep following blindly...People used to call McCain the "Maverick", by being loyal to a party the definition evaporates.

Now it should be MAVEPRICK!! He could care less about the beliefs and practices of DJT. Old McShame wants to go out in a blaze and if that vote helps KILL many people due to the lack of Obamacare then so be it...

(493 posts)drumpf's repetitive whining about "fake news" is just getting tedious. He never actually proves any of his complaints, or even offers examples. Longer this lunatic is in office, the more perilous America's future. If he doesn't start a war with North Korea or Iran, he'll incite white riots here at home. His muddled/stupid brain is too dysfunctional to perform his job and, if special counsel Robert Mueller doesn't take him out of the game, then Congress and any sane members of the administration have to do it.
He is a Loser!! Never in my lifetime has there ever been a president like this,,,and I'm old!
