Chairman of Senate GOP campaign arm: 'We will never endorse' Roy Moore

The chairman of the Senate Republicans campaign arm is vowing to never support Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore (R) after President Trump endorsed Moore earlier this week.
Roy Moore will never have the support of the senatorial committee. We will never endorse him. We wont support him, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) told The Weekly Standard.
I wont let that happen. Nothing will change. I stand by my previous statement. Last month, Gardner called on the Senate to expel Moore if he wins the Alabama special election to fill the Senate seat formerly held by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Moore has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, including one who alleges he initiated a sexual encounter with her when she was 14 and he was 32. Another woman accused Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was 16.

GOP senator joins calls for ethics probe if Moore wins Senate election
BY AVERY ANAPOL - 12/07/17 03:44 PM EST
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said Thursday that if Roy Moore is elected to the Senate next week, there should be an ethics investigation into the sexual assault and misconduct allegations against him.
Tillis said on Buzzfeeds AM to DM Twitter morning show that he thinks an investigation should take place before the chamber moves to expel Moore or take other action.
"We need to examine the facts and let those facts lead us where they may, he said.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has also called for an immediate ethics investigation if Moore wins the Alabama special election, while National Republican Senate Committee Chairman Cory Gardner (Colo.) has called for his expulsion from the Senate.

(12,344 posts)Why are they backing Moorr, then promising to investigate him? Because they need a Republican, but they don't need or want Moore. If they kick him out, he will be replaced by another Republican. If he loses, they lose the seat, and likely their tax reform hopes with it.

(26,060 posts)go on the record. And when they do nothing to expel him, we need to make a HUGE deal about it. I mean, screaming from the rooftops every single day. Hear that, Gillibrand?

(129,543 posts)because they already DID by providing all sorts of defacto support behind the scenes. And they will NEVER hold any "hearings" for anything related to him. They need to maintain their slim lead in the Senate.

(36,937 posts)How many votes would it take to expel Moore?
If republicans (majority) have enough votes, democrats should abstain and see if they really would do so.

(4,442 posts)I am unsure if they an expel someone for behavior that happened prior to serving. I would not think that is a violation of any rules that either body has jurisdiction over.
And I don't think they can refuse to seat him unless he is legally ineligible to serve.

(36,937 posts)Then just enough democrats vote to expel requiring ALL republicans to do it.
All other democrats abstain.

(37,648 posts)The RNC is funding Moore. But notice they're giving lip service to "we're not ENDORSING him." We're just funding him to make sure he has every chance to win.
They're banking on the people being so stupid that they won't catch the money part. And they would be right.
It's pretty convincing, isn't it? Yes, Republicans know how to WIN, that's for sure. They just don't know how to govern. But winning...that's their specialty.
