Eric Holder warns GOP: 'Any attempt to remove Bob Mueller will not be tolerated'

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 12/14/17 10:23 AM EST
Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday warned Congressional Republicans not to make any moves to remove special counsel Robert Mueller, saying such an attempt will not be tolerated.

Holders tweet comes as conservatives have tried to discredit Mueller and his ability to lead the probe into Russias election meddling and any potential ties between Trump campaign staff members and Moscow.
Fox News in particular has called for an end to the Russia investigation, while right-wing pundits have tried to capitalize on news that FBI agent Peter Strzok was taken off the Russia probe because he purportedly sent anti-Trump text messages during the presidential campaign.

(6,228 posts)The Dems do not have any power. They were cut off at the knees in Nov 2016. The media (not just Fox) are corp owned. Guess which side the corp owned media is on? All hands are on deck, which is being expressed all over the internet. Yes, I'm well aware of the net neutrality issue, but the FCC is majority repub. They can do what they want!!!!
So until the Dems win elections, they don't have the power you seem to think they do. Put your efforts into beating the crap out of the repubs. Attacking the Dems makes it seem like they have the power you want them to have. Yes we need to push the Dems and let them know what we think, but for the most part they are on my side of the issues. They just need to be in charge which is why I do all I can so they will win in November 2018.

(37,648 posts)There are people in our country who are teetering on the brink of taking things into their own hands, I believe. If they see the system as not working, they just may take things into their own hands.
Holder is right. This will not be tolerated.
I'm not sanctioning that. I hope the system works. And I'm an older female, so not in a position to DO anything. But I see this as a watershed moment in this administration.

(31,828 posts)Or -rather it 'depends' on HOW they take to the streets.
I truly do not believe those who share our beliefs have that in us to react as one group in a violent action.
Amp up protests? Yes. Until at that point Trump (an autocratic authoritarian) places us under marshall law, and rips up the bill of rights. That I fully believe can happen.
And that is the end of America.

I'm pumped up.
But let's not gild the lily - we have an insane mad "It" in the white house, a senate and house that is willing to allow "It's" behavior to slide as long as their donors get what they want, and a group of KKK types (this includes everything from polite racists to the so-called alt right tiki torch bearers) who are loaded guns and looking to harm Americans who do not look, walk, talk, act or think like them.
I don't believe McConnell or Ryan would stand up and say "This is wrong! It's un-American! We have to remove Trump Now" if he began to strip us of our rights.
They are only brave when it lines their pockets.
They are NOT brave when it's come to the American People, Civil Liberties, Civil Rights, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution.
Those wusses are not a stop gap.

hearings will be a powder keg.
We've already seen millions in multiple cities take to the streets already for reasons much less substantial than a Constitutional crisis of trump firing a second investigator looking into whether he has obstructed justice and/or worked with Russians to steal the election.
I'm not saying that our side will be out to instigate violence.
What I'm saying is that the deplorables will take to the streets in reaction to demonstrations against trump.
We've already seen what can happen in Charlotteville right wing militias, Antifa, regular people caught in the middle.
The rule of law and existence of the country will be at stake if trump acts and Congress doesn't.
It's not to be taken lightly.

(31,828 posts)There are things I say Face to Face that we simply cannot have on the internet - and it mostly goes to how we defend ourselves when confronted with the violence of others.
And - you are correct.

God knows what 45/140's boss has on McConnells wife (who is in Trump's cabinet) but there will be no check.
Only resistance.

Au contraire. The majority of Americans support the probe, and the majority of Americans smell indictments on the horizon.

(382 posts)I don't see what he or anybody else can do about it if Trump decides to fire Mueller. We certainly can't depend on a single republican to put country before party.
So I wish mueller would hurry up and do what he's gotta do to get the job done. It may come down to a flat out citizen revolt. We can't depend on the jellyfish in the Dem Congress to do anything. They are too obsessed with sanctimonious Puritanism to get any work done for us. They care more about burning all the good guys at the stake. Who's next...Ted Lieu? Adam schiff?
