Interviews in Russia Probe Are Scheduled for New York, Angering Democrat

Source: WSJ

The Republican-led House Intelligence Committee has scheduled interviews with two witnesses in its probe of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election in New York City while Congress is in session on Capitol Hill, depriving committee members of the ability to question them directly.

The House Intelligence Committee is sending staff members to New York next week for the interviews. A Republican familiar with the committee’s deliberations said that one of the attorneys for a witness suffered an injury and a New York interview was more convenient.

The plan drew protests from the top Democrat on the intelligence panel.

“These witnesses would be interviewed out of state at a time when we’re in session and may be voting on the tax bill,“ said Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the committee, calling them ”very significant witnesses” important in the continuing investigation into whether President Donald Trump or any of his associates colluded with Russia during the presidential campaign last year.
