HURRICANE HARVEY HIT BLACK PEOPLE THE HARDEST BUT THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR AID
BY BEATRICE DUPUY ON 12/14/17 AT 2:48 PM
The hurricane labeled as one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history Hurricane Harvey hit people of color the hardest but many have yet to receive help.
A report released by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Episcopal Health Foundation last week assessed the hurricanes impact on vulnerable Texans in the Gulf Coast region and found that three months after the hurricane ravaged the state of Texas, black residents were being left behind in getting the help they need.
In applying for FEMA assistance, 34 percent of white residents had their applications approved compared to 13 percent of black residents.
The conventional wisdom that Texans hit by Hurricane Harvey have recovered is wrong, Drew Altman, president and CEO of the Kaiser Family Foundation, said in a statement. The people in the hardest-hit areas are telling us that they still face major hurdles before their lives return to normal.

(2,001 posts)Boy they went from a 95% black area and turned it into a white city, Saw it myself. Days after katrina corporations bought up the entire 9th ward and the public housing projects were leveled. It really was something to see.......

(34,661 posts)Rove bragged about how this would change the Voting Patterns in New Orleans for decades. Same shit is now happening in Houston. Eliminate Democratic Voters by virtue of denying right full services. Again,Republican's are bragging about how they have dispersed their poorer or people of color to other states.

(41,831 posts)That the state will probably never get any relief funds for the fires out here, and so far its been true. Trump's revenge for the state voting for Hillary, and we are on our own. This state is strong enough to be its own country, if it truly wanted to, so its not like we are that bad off.
Still this President does not represent anyone other than himself, and he would let the entire country burn if he had his choice. TRUMP is not our President, he only caters to his base and his base has told him, "Let California burn, they didn't vote for Trump"

(58,785 posts)donors be? They've been coming through for Texas because they need TX voters happy for future elections, including electing their man Gregg Abbott president. Now it turns out they're so creepy-mean and small that they're nixing even releasing other people's money to a small percentage of black Texans?
Of course, a higher percentage of black neighborhoods are on low ground than white; you bet they have a higher percentage of valid claims.
Here's why they think they can get away with kicking black Texans around.
Blacks are 12.6%, just below national average
Whites including Hispanic whites 79.4%
Whites without Hispanic 42.6%
Hispanic alone 39.1%
Yes, there aren't many staunch Republicans among them, but I just hope Alabama gave those bastards a twinge. Mean, bigoted, arrogant and greedy is not exactly a recipe for wisdom.
