House Republicans prepare to wrap up contentious Russia investigation
Source: NBC News
WASHINGTON As House Republicans make the case for special counsel Robert Mueller to end his investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, they appear ready to bring their own intelligence probe to an end.
Senior Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee tell NBC News that they hope and expect to draw their year-long investigation to an end in the coming weeks, saying they have largely completed all interviews relevant to the narrow scope of inquiry Democrats had agreed to last spring.
The committee has conducted interviews with key witnesses almost daily this month, sometimes seeing multiple witnesses on a single day, as they eyed the finish line. Though Democrats say they have requested as many as 30 additional interviews with new witnesses, none have been scheduled beyond the end of this month.
Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, one of the GOP leaders of the committees Russia probe, told NBC News that it is in the publics interest to finish as quickly as possible so that they can issue a final report. He accused Democrats of wanting to prolong their work for political reasons and even downplayed the significance of the committees work, saying that it was the Justice Department investigation led by Mueller that would produce the most definitive final product.

(81,525 posts)on a witch hunt that produced NOTHING. TRIED to get Hillary and failed. Again. Why? Because there was NOTHING there. Shed done NOTHING wrong. They found NOTHING.
Heaven knows, with their predisposition that she HAD TO have done something wrong, youd expect theyd come up with something, eh? They were so sure, and so quick to condemn her. And they havent. The much-vaunted Benghazi Committee found NOTHING, and ended with a whimper as they snuck away hoping nobodyd notice their tails between their legs.

(70,601 posts)and how long did his Benghazi, HRC's emails, and email server's investigation go on?
I have always thought that the unending and unneeded hearing into Hillary and stuff
were tied right back into wiki leaks and Russia.

It won't work.
Trump-Russia is too big and has too many conspirators (including RepubliCons who took money) and too many people in too many countries know too much. The Germans, Danes, Dutch, Canadians, New Zealanders, UK, and Australians have intelligence intercepts and information in addition to the CIA, DIA, NSA, and FBI.

(3,284 posts)The repubs never wanted these probes and have been sabotaging them from day one. Just a waste of time and money.

(37,372 posts)If they were skilled they would conclude the investigation but find no wrongdoing.
Their lack of skill here goes to their inability to govern.

(37,648 posts)So Trump can take that as one more, even stronger, talking point. It's been PROVEN there's no collusion or obstruction. Unlike the witchhunt that is continuing by the Democrats, who refuse to end the witch hunt.
The House committee was a joke from the start. All the Repubs in the House no doubt knew it. From Ryan to Nunes and all in between.
