Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Monday tweeted praise for a newspaper editorial that harshly criticized him and called for him to retire.

The Salt Lake Tribune named Hatch their Utahn of the Year, an honor the paper said is given to an impactful Utahn, whether their contributions were for good or for ill.
The editorial said that Hatch was given the designation based on his utter lack of integrity that rises from his unquenchable thirst for power, and told the longtime senator to call it a career.
It would be good for Utah if Hatch, having finally caught the Great White Whale of tax reform, were to call it a career, the piece read. If he doesnt, the voters should end it for him.

(9,426 posts)he will feel stupid! Poor Orrin was born in abject poverty in a tar paper shack. (yeah, right) Clawed his way to the top, with lots of wealth. He is a phony. Some of these politicians claim religion just as a crutch, to fool followers. Orrin looks like death warmed over. Why are these people willing to stay on, long past their "sell by" date? What difference would a few more millions do them? His praise of tRump was so over the top, I wondered if he is afflicted with something?

(470 posts)and also, under the current way things work in Washington, as an elected official you have to be constantly raising money at receptions and dinners and events held for you or you don't get access to committee chairmanships, further funding, or even the congressional dining room. They spend several hours of every working day raising money on our dime instead of actually working for their constituents, the only people they work for and pay attention to are the ones who sponsor their fundraising efforts. They have a dollar quota they have to meet.

It could have been a tradition in Orrin Hatch's family, too.

(1,134 posts)... that he is no longer mentally fit for office (but PERFECTLY fit to be a Trump sycophant). I saw him at a recent Senate hearing when an aide was whispering responses in his ear, just like Nancy Reagan used to do for Ronnie, when HIS Alzheimer's was taking over.
