De Blasio to be sworn in for second term by Bernie Sanders

Source: The Hill

BY JOSH DELK - 12/27/17 05:26 PM EST

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) will be sworn in for his second term in office by Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the senator's office confirmed on Wednesday.

A spokesman for Sanders told The Hill that de Blasio had asked Sanders to preside over the ceremony. The New York Times first reported the news.

Sanders held an endorsement rally in October for de Blasio, who won reelection handily over Republican opponent Nicole Malliotakis the following month.

Former President Bill Clinton presided over de Blasio's January 2014 inauguration ceremony in front of City Hall.

This doesn't really make any sense to me though. You'd think DeBlasio would be looking to curry favor with somebody from his own state and party. That's how it usually works.

Also, it's kind of a backwards insult to Hillary, isn't it?

They've had disagreements and issues over education and other state expenditures
As to an insult, I doubt it. He endorsed her candidacy in the primaries
If there is motive, it is more likely making sure there are no hard feelings with Sanders
Could be, they're just friends
