Judge denies Rick Gates request to leave house arrest for New Year's Eve party

Source: The Hill

BY JOSH DELK - 12/29/17 04:29 PM EST

A judge on Friday denied a request from Rick Gates, who was indicted in Robert Mueller's Russia probe, to leave house arrest to attend a New Year's Eve party.

Gates, a business associate of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, had asked to "accompany his family to events for the New Year's Eve holiday from Sunday, December 31, 2017, through Monday, January 1, 2017." Judge Amy Berman Jackson rejected Gates on Friday, saying the motion was not filed before a court-mandated deadline.

Gates has been under house arrest since October, when he was charged with crimes including money laundering and failing to register as a lobbyist for a foreign government. The charges come from Mueller's probe into Russian election meddling.

Judge Jackson previously denied a request from Gates to leave house arrest to drive his children to school.

either they are too stupid to know what they've done, or they believe they are now and will be above the law. I'm beginning to wonder if they may be right.

His bags were probably packed. He's under house arrest precisely because he's an escape risk.

She threw out a wrongful-death suit filed by families of two of the four Americans killed in Benghazi, ordered the Roman Catholic Diocese of Washington to obey the ACA's contraceptive mandate, threw Jesse Jackson Jr. in the pokey, and is Robert Mueller's judge of choice.
