Multiple officers shot, suspect at large, bomb squad, SWAT on scene in Douglas County (Colorado)
Source: Denver Post
A so far undisclosed number of Sheriffs deputies were shot Sunday morning and a Douglas County Sheriffs Office SWAT team is at the scene, a home near the 3400 block of County Line Road, according to Lauren Lekander, DCSO spokeswoman.
We have multiple officers down, said Deputy Jason Blanchard of the incident in Highlands Ranch. We are not giving numbers or status at this point, we are still working on getting the suspect in custody.
Denver 7 reported hearing shots fired as a reporter arrived at the scene. Deputies were responding to a disturbance call when shots were fired from the home near Colorado Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m., Lekander said.
We have SWAT out there setting up and preparing to go in right now, Lekander said at about 7:15 a.m. Video broadcast by Denver 7 shows an Arapahoe County Sheriff Bomb Squad truck at the scene. In a Code Red the Sheriffs office told residents to shelter in place, avoid windows and stay away from exterior walls.

From the address this looks like an apartment complex with quite a few units.

A gunman in suburban Denver opened fire on sheriff's deputies responding to a report of a domestic dispute early Sunday morning, killing one officer and wounding four others while striking two civilians in a barrage of gunfire. The deputies were called to a residence around 5:20 a.m. Sunday morning where they were immediately met with gunfire from the suspect, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said in a news conference Sunday.
The two civilians also suffered non-life threatening injuries, Spurlock said. The unidentified suspect, who was killed in the exchange, was known to police but he did not have a criminal history. Spurlock said the suspect wielded a rifle and fired more than 100 rounds in the encounter.
Zackari Parrish, 29, was identified as the deputy killed in the shooting. Parrish joined the force seven months ago. He is survived by his wife and two children. Spurlock said he sat with Parrish's wife and "could see in her eyes that her life was over."
The wounded officers were identified as Mike Doyle, 28; Taylor Davis, 30; Jeffrey Pelle, 32; and Tom O'Donnell, 31. The FBI office in Denver said it was ready to provide its "full support" to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

(30,749 posts)all this death and destruction is taking place, do they really need that many cop cars? This looks like a military invasion.

(304 posts)Highlands Ranch is just southwest of me, and the reports are saying it is a procession for a fallen officer from the hospital to the morgue.
Several nearby cities as well as the state troopers were on an accident alert for a bit.

(16,829 posts)Officer killed was actually inside the gunman's apt. 100 rounds were fired by the gunman. Really scary for law enforcement when they have to deal with people who are this heavily armed.
This must have been terrifying for the people sheltering in place hearing all that shooting and seeing the swat team.
