Only 2% of Canadians deny climate change, suggests poll

Source: Canadian Press

Only two per cent of Canadians who responded to a new opinion poll believe climate change is not occurring.

The findings are in a survey conducted by Insightrix Research, Inc. for IPAC-CO2 Research Inc., a Regina-based centre that studies carbon capture and storage.

The online poll of 1,550 people was done between May 29 and June 11. The results were to be released on Wednesday.

...

Almost one-third —32 per cent —said they believe climate change is happening because of human activity, while 54 per cent said they believe it's because of human activity and partially due to natural climate variation.

Nine per cent believe climate change is occurring due to natural climate variation.

Meanwhile in america, there is a mainstream news channel that proudly reports as news "it's snowing, where is that global warming?" (http://mediamatters.org/research/2011/01/27/broken-record-fox-still-falsely-claiming-that-s/175637) As a result, this hilarious fallacy is VERY popular among Americans! And in put colder neighbor up north, people don't think that way.

One visit to the Athabasca glaciers and you could see it for yourself (they have an exhibit). In the years with heavy pollution (eg. during world wars), the glaciers retreated faster.

the other is direct observation by good scientists...not obstructed by politicians with an agenda of denial

...with Harper being the exception in recent years..he's trying to hide the real damage being done by the tar Sands by messing with funding & such for research up in that area.

He'll be gone soon though..losing support daily & can't quite bully his way through legislation & such now.

of the rest of the U.S. corporate media has been complicit in the denial and obfuscation of global warming climate change science for far too long albeit on a more subtle level.

The science has been decades ahead of the corporate media in regards to this issue.

In fact I would argue most of the semi-respected corporate media's actions have been even more damaging as their pseudo journalistic integrity; when compared to FOX, would have more influence on muddying up the picture instead of clarifying it for people of reason.

I do tend to equate the poor quality and outright lying of all of our media to Fox news. I consider that the news is the main reason that this coup of the US has been able to happen and consider almost all of them traitors to the US.

I live within walking distance of the Canadian border and have some good friends and extended family in that great Dominion. A wonderful country; I'd visit more often except that I hate the hardcase treatment I get from CBP coming back (I rarely have any trouble with CBSA).

Most of them that I know are aghast at attitudes here...how so many of us consider being without health care a "virtue," among others.

I remember reading that some years ago a destroyer from the Royal Canadian Navy negotiated an ice-free passage of the high Arctic for the first time...in winter.

Of course, one can't generalise about an entire nation, especially as one as big and diverse as Canada, but in the main I have found them to be MUCH more open-minded and at least willing to LISTEN to other opinions than too many of us are.
