I believe that Jeff Sessions, being a lawyer and former prosecutor, must have known from the beginning that he would recuse himself if the Russian involvement became known. He probably told Cheeto before he was nominated or approved by the Senate, however Cheeto either didn't listen or didn't understand what Jeffy was telling him.

I'm sure that nobody in the WH is willing to point out to him that there's a field of bodies in his wake, abandoned buddies and supporters and "loyalists".
