South Africa to formally protest Trump's 's---hole' comment

Source: The Hill

South Africa is planning to formally protest President Trump's reported remarks referring to Haiti and some African nations as "shithole countries."

South Africa's government on Monday is expected to issue a diplomatic protest to the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, CNN reported.

"The Department will provide an opportunity to the Charges de Affaires to explain the statement that African countries, alongside Haiti and El Salvador, constitute 'shitholes' from where migrants into the United States are undesirable," the Department of International Relations said in a statement.

The statement noted that Trump's denial of the reports "was not categorical, referring only to Haiti and not addressing the entirety of the statement attributed to him."

the republican shithole's sentiments are not shared by most Americans, and we value their friendship and respect their culture?

they very much ALREADY KNOW what most Americans think based on how our previous President (and his family) represented us to the world with such diplomacy and grace.

At this point, for Democrats to continue to jump into the debate, gives the deplorables a platform and invites them to ratchet up the rancor and lies. Democrats are honoring the legacy of MLK and by doing so, further marginalize the racist fucks of the GOP.

FINALLY see the censure resolution, and anxious to see how other Democrats respond to it.

And we still need to assure our allies that, though our country has elected a pig, we are still their allies. Presenting the counterpoint to the republican shithole's words - without any need for debate - is essential for our relationships with our allies.

Obama did do an overseas tour recently.

And a number of Democrats have responded - either via twitter and/or on the various political talk shows. This includes the various Democratic caucuses.

The President’s statement is shameful, abhorrent, unpresidental, and deserves our strongest condemnation. But as I have posted far too many times before, unless WE (Democrats) control Congress AND control the media, then whatever we do will not be reported on nor will be carried out.

NOT sufficient response. Their efforts need to be met with equal efforts from our side. When they make a formal overture, and we say a few tweets are good enough as response, we are insulting them.

Each country that lodges a formal complaint should be getting an official response from Democrats, signed by all Democrats and assuring them of our good will and respect. Otherwise, we are enabling those who insult them.

We are in the minority in this government. However be mindful that we cannot suddenly attempt to do what people like Flynn & Kushner did - violate the Logan Act (or be seen as or accused of doing such). I.e., one can only go but so far when engaging foreign countries.

This idiocy happened a few days ago, so give it some time because the government shuts down Friday if something isn't worked out (and DACA is apparently part of that).

IMHO, those countries are trolling the hell out of Drumpf. And since they are doing it so publicly, you should get the hint about what they are doing and why, and let them continue to do it. I don't think you are giving them much credit. They are not stupid.

I.e., they are doing the diplomatic version of what Vincent Fox did in his hilarious tweet. Even North Korea is mocking him.

Sometimes you have to let the momentum take you to where you need to go.

most Americans respect their country and value their friendship. Democrats have an opportunity to loudly and formally join all those others on the world stage who are trolling and castigating him.

How about this: Imagine that I, a white woman, am standing with a white colleague and a colleague who is a person of color. My white colleague makes a horribly racist remark and insults the other colleague. Wouldn't I be a shithead if I just stood there and "let the momentum take me?" Wouldn't it be incumbent on me to actively support my insulted colleague and tell the racist that he's disgusting? Worse yet, wouldn't silence make me complicit with his racism?

Let's not be shitheads. Let's formally show that at least one party unanimously supports and respects the allies he insulted.

I just gave you a multitude of examples of Democrats castigating the jackass in the WH and telling him how disgusting he is and has been.

Right now, nationwide, Democratic elected officials are participating in MLK commemoration activities (DOING not "talking" by writing "strongly worded letters" ). And THAT is exactly how they establish, by deeds the difference between them and the orange shitgibbon, who chose to play golf instead.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, who was born this day 89 years ago, would have wanted it this way. Of course we could always pull out some Malcolm X "ballot or the bullet" if you prefer.

What I am talking about is standing with our allies who have been insulted against the racist who has insulted them. It has nothing to do with violence of any kind.

And I really do disagree that the passivity the Dems have shown in the face of these comments has anything to do with MLK's teachings. I don't think, if he were alive today, MLK would have considered clever tweets to be sufficient response to galloping racism.

We are probably not going to agree on this, so I will bid you good night.
