House votes to end government shutdown, sending legislation to Trump

Source: Washington Post

Congress voted late Monday to reopen the government after a three-day shutdown, sending President Trump a short-term spending bill that passed after Senate Republican leaders pledged to act on immigration policy next month.

The House joined the Senate in passing the bill to fund the government through Feb. 8, reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program and roll back several health-care taxes. It passed 81-18 in the Senate and 266-150 in the House.

“I’m glad we can finally get back to work here,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said after the vote. He called the shutdown a “manufactured crisis” characterized by “damaging partisan theatrics.”

The breakthrough came Monday after Senate Democrats bowed to pressure to reopen the government, joining Republicans in backing an immigration and spending compromise that was quickly denounced by liberals and immigration activists.

They got their funding for the government. We didn't get a gurantee of DACA protections, we got a promise that a bill to debate and vote would be introduced. That's hardly a guarantee that they won't just chat some and toss the DACA kids out anyway.

6. 3 weeks to debate and make our excellent case for DACA is not a disaster...more like an opportunity.

CHIP is now funded. McConnell is on record agreeing to take up DACA. It's already polling very favorably, and this puts DACA front and center from now until Feb 8th. The Rethugs are getting backed into a racist corner for all to see..

Break immigrants up into groups of 700,000 for a pathway to citizenship and they can get any concessions they want.
