Trump Calls 'Fake News' on Reports About Firing Mueller: 'Typical New York Times Fake Stories'

As he prepares to deliver a speech at the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland, President Trump is calling “fake news” on the bombshell report that he seriously considered firing special counsel Robert Mueller last year.

“Fake news, fake news,” Trump said to reporters. “Typical New York Times fake stories.”

Trump proceeded to brag that his presence at Davos will attract crowd sizes like the event has never seen before.

The New York Times was the first to report on Thursday evening that Trump ordered the top White House lawyer Don McGahn to axe Mueller in the summer of 2017. Trump reportedly demanded Mueller’s termination after complaining about several conflicts of interest (including an old golf club membership dispute), which the president used to argue that Mueller should not be in charge of the special probe on Russian 2016 election interference/potential collusion with the Trump campaign.
