Poll: 2 percent say they've benefited from GOP tax plan with raise or bonus

Source: The Hill

Only two percent of American adults reported receiving a bonus, a bump in pay or another perk due to the Republican tax cuts passed in December, a new survey found.

Nearly a quarter of respondents, 24 percent, in a Reuters/Ipsos poll said they think they will pay less in taxes due to the legislation. Twenty-seven percent believe the bill will increase the amount they pay in taxes, while 23 percent did not anticipate the bill altering their pay.

A quarter of the respondents polled said the new legislation made them more enticed to cast a ballot for a Republican, while a third of those surveyed said this for Democrats.

1. Democrats need to shape their messaging on this

Republicans think they can run on tax cuts. Democrats need to get ahead of this and control the message.

Trying to say that there will be no benefit is a losing proposition with all these phony bonus announcements.

Democrats need to remind the public of the record profits these same companies did during Obama’s last few years.

And they need to talk about the size of these bonuses in dollars compared to the billions the same companies have spent on stock buybacks.

Even CNN is dedicating full news stories to when 100-1000 get a small one-time bonus that a corporation attributes to the tax bill.

Also there are items in Trump's proposed budget that if passed, would reduce my after- tax income more than any increase I get from the tax cut.

For the middle class and restructure and take away some of the tax cuts for the rich and businesses and take away any loopholes.if businesses hire people or hike wages that's when they get their tax cut.

While some companies would share their good fortune with their employees, there are many who choose their shareholders instead by using it for share buybacks or dividends, or even layoffs and plant closures.

Companies are in business to make profit, not create jobs. The only thing that would cause a company to hire or raise wages is if it helps them create profit due to increased consumer demand for their products and services.

If they could get by with robots we know they would.
Democrats need to hammer this home every day. Democrats need to run this fall on raising corporate taxes and restoring the status quo for working Americans.
Democrats need to push the fact that this tax sham is nothing more than a huge gift to the 1% paid for by raised taxes and decreasing benefits to working families.
