Trump authorizes release of controversial Republican memo

Source: CNN

(CNN)President Donald Trump has authorized the release of a controversial Republican memo, and has sent word to the House Intelligence Committee the document may be made public, a White House official said.

There were no White House-initiated redactions to the memo, a House aide said.
___
UPDATED:

The extraordinary decision to release the classified four-page memo with a never-before-used House Intelligence Committee rule would escalate the partisan fight over the investigations into Russian election meddling and possible collusion. This will likely have major repercussions for the relationship between the Justice Department and Capitol Hill.

The memo's release would also threaten to further fracture the frayed relationship between the President and his Justice Department and intelligence community, both of which opposed the release of the document, which is based on classified intelligence. The FBI issued a rare public warning on Wednesday that the memo omits key information that could impact its veracity.

The memo, spearheaded by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, alleges that the FBI used the opposition research dossier on Trump and Russia written by ex-British intelligence agent Christopher Steele to secure a FISA surveillance warrant on former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page without disclosing that the dossier was funded in part by Democratic sources.

debunks the memo is by including the rest of the often classified information that the weasels and liars (as Comey called them) deleted in order to present their lies. To release our memo would be to do harm by releasing more classified information.

It was probably written as an official document for legal and historical purposes. But as far as we're concerned, it's just something they can claim exists even if we can't see it. At least at this point.

it, but that doesn't change the reasons it was classified. Our rebuttal would have to include information they didn't include and thus isn't already swimming on the surface.

Sigh. Weasel liars.

I don't know why having the Russians know how our FISA courts work is so damaging, for instance, but it's obvious how the threat that almost any secret information submitted to FISA could be revealed, and cases destroyed, could handicap the FBI's and other agencies' ability to function.

As I said, I don't understand what the Repubs are giving away to Russia and all other enemies, but it's real. I'd say only this crazy president and rotten-to-the-core Repubilcan leadership woudl do it, but

This does remind me though of W, or perhaps only up to his VP, outing Valerie Plame for political revenge. She ran deep-cover agents for the CIA, and we never knew if any, or how many, died, were tortured, or disappeared into political prisons. For sure, we lost those intelligence assets though.

The FISA court doesn't just randomly accept some raw intel data and hand out FISA warrants without more evidence. It doesn't work that way.

The optics don't look bad to anyone who knows the facts. It's a big nothing burger.

Congress think that the FISA Court and the FBI and intelligence agencies overstepped in ordering the surveillance of Carter Page, they have the ability to change the laws that permitted that surveillance.

They could have already changed those laws, but they prefer to grandstand.

Grandstanding is much more exciting than the tedious work of actually writing and passing good laws.

Grandstanding and the drama of releasing memos is more gratifying to the egos of Republicans than is the work of governing.

Let's elect Democrats and charge them with insuring that the laws that govern our justice system from Guantanamo to the FISA court to the FBI to the Supreme Court protect our rights as stated in the Constitution.

I don't think the Republicans are capable of doing that.

Rep. Gaetz(R) of the Judiciary Committee, said on CNN, or MSNBC that he thinks, "It's great bc it gets the information into the public square for all to see and debate..." But, no word on DTs taxes being released, and Don Jr. and Bannon, can give nonsensical reasons for not giving answers to Congress. (attorney-client privilege etc.). We want ALL of it in the public square please. P.S...we're paying you guys to run these hearings...and we're paying you. ( By the way, how was the retreat this week? Hope it was worth it because some Americans died enroute. Any of you at their funerals? Did you guys work on the budget? Something tells me no. More like getting your stories straight, and info about donors for the next election cycle. Drinking and eating good food. R+R, Etc.) Good grief.
I think this memo is a fishing expedition to start a discussion. So DTs lawyers can see what evidence they have against DT and his minions who are being indicted or prosecuted or investigated. Not to mention, to give your 'palskies' in Soviet Intel a look behind the curtain of our intelligence gathering. A sworn enemy of the U.S.A who we've shed blood and treasure to defend against. That battle has been going on since 1945, and it'll be going on tomorrow. (But....they have the goods on you and your kin don't they? Humble group you's.) That's not insignificant at all to me. Real Patriots this bunch. I'll be rooting for the Eagles based on that sentiment alone. Symbolic? Oh yes.
I thought all these things like the FISA Court were there to protect us from terrorism etc.? (Or have we been absolved of that fear as well now due to DTs "leadership"?) If so, maybe it's time for the Patriot Act too, considering it sure locked down a lot of Americans freedoms and inalienable rights. Those granted under the 4th, and 1st, and 14th jump right out initially. In for a penny...in for a pound. It's all or nothing, imho. We sure grew government with The Dept. of Homeland Defense....maybe we can save a bundle by going back to the days when we are safe enough not to need all those folks as well? DT is really really getting the job done eh? That's the message he's sending, he alone is all we need. Trust him. God help us.
Respective to all of that,....get your hands off our taxpayer developed internet. Who made you the 'lords of our internet?' Net neutrality=more censorship and more dumbing down of our society....and by the way..."pay more for less' while you're at it right? I want my $1.00 box of lightbulbs back please. You know, market freedom. No regulations...Get out of here man.
This release is also meant to piggy-back on the Super Bowl Coverage for headlines and discussion. (In my opinion.) 'Lets all talk about the Super Bowl....and DT.' Yawn. I thought they didn't want politics mixed with their entertainment? Better not be any kneelers out there or all next week we can talk about Pences hurt feelings...because Jesus would've said stand up right? Get lost.
I long for the days when we hired our government officials and they went away and did THE PEOPLES WORK, and didn't need to have the entire news cycle about themselves. Is nothing else happening in the world that we can hear about? My eyes hurt from reading the "kyron" for news that effects me. I for one, don't want politics on my news 24/7..(news that I PAY to see now that tv signals aren't free anymore....Has anyone seen my antennae? Thanks G.O.P/Bush)...isn't that why we have CSAPN(s)?
With any luck it adds to Mr. Muellers conclusions that the President will throw any U.S. institution or civil servant, under the bus to protect his sorry behavior, the rest of the 340 million of us be damned. Real presidential. It has to begin to end soon. Mr. Mueller, how about the first charges Monday morning? It's time. We the majority support you, the FBI, the CIA, DHS, DNI, on and on...thanks for keeping us safe and doing your jobs. (Army, Navy, Air Force , and Marines included) NO MORE SOVIET CASUALTIES. We're far better and smarter than Putin, The Russians...and all the trolls and bots in between.
'The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few....or the one.' May we ALL live long and prosper...like the 1%. Have a good weekend DU'ers. (Please excuse typos, spelling etc. I'm old.)
