McCain Slams Partisan Attacks on FBI, DOJ: 'We Are Doing Putin's Job For Him'

Source: Mediate

by Ken Meyer | 12:29 pm, February 2nd, 2018

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has released a statement rebuking the current climate of hostility towards the law enforcement and intelligence communities — and it almost reads like a direct rebuttal of President Trump‘s decision to release the controversial Devin Nunes memo on alleged FISA investigative abuses.

McCain’s statement came out at just around the same time as the memo’s launch, which Trump chose to release in spite of objections from the FBI and Department of Justice. There have been a lot of accusations and “deep state” conspiracy theories surrounding the memo, and McCain says that with all the squabbling over the integrity of America’s institutions, it only fuels the discord and chaos Russia was going for by interfering with the 2016 election.

“The latest attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests – no party’s, no president’s, only Putin’s. The American people deserve to know all of the facts surrounding Russia’s ongoing efforts to subvert our democracy, which is why Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation must proceed unimpeded. Our nation’s elected officials, including the president, must stop looking at this investigation through the warped lens of politics and manufacturing partisan sideshows. If we continue to undermine our own rule of law, we are doing Putin’s job for him.”

when republicans would stand up to a president in their own party who was acting wreckless and irresponsible, criminal even.

Not anymore. It seems like they are all on team russia.

Trump is a bought and paid for Russian agent. Along with his fellow Republican scum-bags he is intent in destroying the Republic and transforming it into a dictatorship ruled by a cabal of oligarchs.

It's pretty frigging scary at this point. Trump and his band of traitors have been in charge too long; I'm certain our country is in danger even if we manage to get rid of Trump.

4. McCain on this issue is too intelligent to be a Republican.
Fri Feb 2, 2018, 01:57 PM

Note that I said "on this issue."

If the Republicans don't like the FISA court or the FISA law, let them change the law. They have the majority in Congress. They could put an end to the FISA court if they chose to do so. It's completely up to them.

And the FBI is full of Republicans.

What a bunch. Shooting themselves in the foot.

This will split the Republican Party. Paul Ryan should have never allowed this to happen. Now we see that he either has no common sense or no control and authority in the Republican Party.

The Gowdys and Nunezes are in charge, and they are incompetent. Just incompetent.

If they object to the decision of the FISA Court with regard to Page, they should deal with that through their legislative power to correct the law and the system.

This is not a matter of rogue FBI agents. It is a matter of a flawed law or maybe it isn't a problem at all. Maybe Carter Page should have been put under surveillance.

But the Republican approach to the controversy they have manufactured makes no sense. They are in charge of every branch of the government and have the responsibility to repair what they see as flawed. They passed the FISA bill again without changing it or repairing it. Why?

As for Carter Page, let's focus on why he was placed under surveillance. What had he done to draw so much law enforcement attention to himself for such a long time -- several years wasn't it?

Brought to us by the Senator from Arizona. Where was his care and concern for the country then?

Good comment but it's too little, too late, John.

And besides, he just found his conscience b/c he's on his way out the door, due to illness.

..... for a REPUBLICAN Mr. McCain is not all that bad. Yes, he votes against "us" way too much for me to ever vote for him but he does put Country before Party and I respect that. We disagree about a lot of things but I have never , not once, questioned his Patriotism and duty to our country. As a Veteran myself I respect both his service AND his sense of Duty even as I disagree with him about the means to the ends of some/most issues. My two cents worth.

Senator McCain is an American icon and hero. His statement on this matter is extremely important. All Americans are watching.

This moment demands that our heroes stand up and speak out. Debasing Senator McCain is the stupidest play in the book.

This hyper-partisanship benefits only our enemies and makes the debasers look as petty and bereft of good will as those they impugn.

He has to get those huge Russian loans expunged and that won't happen until he's done everything his "daddy, Putin" has told him to accomplish. He has to first of all, get rid of current sanctions, but that's on hold until drumpf has ended the constitution and our federal law enforcement agencies and supplanted them with fascist loyalists to himself and Putin. Next is destroying the federal law enforcement, destroying our reputation worldwide, hindering democracy here and worldwide, removing all labor regulations including child labor laws, stopping public education, stopping democrats from being able to vote. He's made a lot of progress, to our great peril.

Him and Jeff Flake should do the mavericky thing as he was fond to say in the past and swiitch to the democratic party. What do they have to lose ? they are not running again. This would put a stop on the dismantling of our country. They would be hailed as heroes at no poliitical cost to them since they are on their way out.
