Warner: Nunes Memo 'Demonstrates An Astonishing Disregard For The Truth'

Shortly after congressional Republicans released the House Intelligence Committees controversial memo, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, blasted the document as reckless.
The release of this memo by House Intelligence Committee Republicans and the White House, over the objections of the FBI and the Department of Justice, is reckless and demonstrates an astonishing disregard for the truth, he said.
Warner said that the memo crafted by Republican staffers for House Intelligence Commitee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) is misleading. Unlike almost every House member who voted in favor of this memos release, I have actually read the underlying documents on which the memo was based. They simply do not support its conclusions, he said.
He also charged that the release of the memo will make it harder for the Senate committee to continue with its Russia investigation. This unprecedented public disclosure of classified material during an ongoing criminal investigation is dangerous to our national security. This will make it far more difficult for the Intelligence Committees to conduct meaningful, bipartisan oversight of intelligence activities in the future. This action was also taken without regard to the damage it could do to our ability to protect Americans from threats around the globe.

(8,200 posts)This administration has followed the fascist playbook for the last forty years. Trump is the culmination of the monstrosity that Republicans created. He is the product of years of vicious propaganda that has been spread throughout the nation 24/7 by demagogues that have played on the ignorance of less discerning citizens. There is only one way to put a stake in the heart of this aberration. We must vote them out of every office they have captured ranging for the local, and state government to Washington it is not a exaggeration to say that the welfare of our nation is in jeopardy.

(3,414 posts)The Nunez memo is a White House product filtered through the House Intel Committee majority.
The GOPolitbureau is enabling this entire disaster.
I am having some doubts that the mid-term elections will have the integrity to facilitate a correction.

(58,785 posts)had just shut up all through 2016, we would have swept the nation. They would not have influenced others or been constantly described by the press as representing weakness and lack of principles in Democrats.
What was the MULTIPLIER FACTOR for two or more solid years of whining and complaining by people who identified themselves as themselves Democrats, or claimed they wanted the same things but were too principled to be Democrats? The ones who said we were as bad as the Republicans because they were incapable of differentiating, of admiring what is good and valuable in us?
Did 1-1/2, 2, or even 3 others people not vote, or go third party, or to Trump, for each of the chronic complainers who are the party's great weakness? We lost the 3 keys states by LESS than the number of those who voted for that creepy weirdo, Jill Stein.
The right won because when it comes to commitment they were and are strong -- they have every other fault, but they don't have the kind who, election after election, undermine the goals they claim to support.
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity. " ... ~ W.B. Yeats, The Second Coming

(4,007 posts)hinder the Senate's investigation, it does provide tons of evidence about even more players in the Trump administration and the House!
In a sense, every person that had a role in this travesty, the House committee members, Trump, his lawyers, and more are now targets of Mueller's team if they already, pre-release, weren't being investigated. I swear, it's a cornucopia of news, leads, implications and more of collusion, conspiracy and more, all in an effort to protect Trump. Lead by non-lawyer, agriculture grad Nunes!
Ah, but cui bono...for whose benefit?
It now seems and has for some time that numerous senior and base Republicans did accept tons of Russian cash and for some time. It's hard for me to believe that they did not know it's illegal to do so, PAC "washed" or not. They knew to a man where the funds came from but took them anyway. Why any competent lawyers didn't severely admonish them not to do so is stunning. They also couldn't have gambled this stunning fact would never surface in the press.
Could their extreme hatred of 8 years of President Obama, coupled with the high prospect of another 8 years of Democratic rule under Hillary Clinton cause them to literally throw all caution to the winds in an all-out effort to regain all the levers of power in Washington?
Now that they have been caught red-handed, is this why so many House Republiscums at least have decided to leave their office and not run again? Will far more Russkie-cash-grabbin' Representatives and even Senators now run for the hills before November when Mueller's team indicts all but son Barron and Mrs. Trump?
Ah, we can only hope so.....pass the popcorn! LOL

(33,348 posts)Seems to me that the conspirators considered the hindrance to the investigations by the committees to be a feature, not a bug. If this nunesburger memo makes the intelligence community reluctant to assist the committees, then Putin's buddies in the Whitehouse, House and Senate will be happy.
