Dems Warn Trump Against Using Memo To Fire Rosenstein, Mueller

Following the release of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes memo on Friday, Democratic leaders in Congress sent a letter to President Donald Trump warning him not to use the document as a reason to fire those in charge of the Russia probe Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and special counsel Robert Mueller.
The Democrats cited reports that Trump has told friends and aides that he could use the memo to discredit the Russia probe. As the Washington Post reported, Trump told aides that the memo might give him a reason to fire Rosenstein, and he has told friends that it could prove that Muellers investigation is a witch hunt.

The full text of the letter is below:
Dear President Trump:
The decision to release a partisan and misleading memo over the objections of your own Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director and the Department of Justice (DOJ) was a transparent attempt to discredit the hard-working men and women of law enforcement who are investigating Russias interference with our Presidential election and that nations ties to your campaign.
We are alarmed by reports that you may intend to use this misleading document as a pretext to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, in an effort to corruptly influence or impede Special Counsel Bob Muellers investigation.
We write to inform you that we would consider such an unwarranted action as an attempt to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation. Firing Rod Rosenstein, DOJ Leadership, or Bob Mueller could result in a constitutional crisis of the kind not seen since the Saturday Night Massacre.
Sincerely,
Senator Chuck Schumer
Representative Nancy Pelosi
Senator Dick Durbin
Representative Steny Hoyer
Senator Patty Murray
Representative Joe Crowley
Senator Mark Warner
Representative Adam Schiff
Senator Dianne Feinstein
Representative Jerrold Nadler

(17,863 posts)McCain? Flake? Corker? Collins? Graham? Hello, anyone? I wish every reporter would ask these folks this question (with the possible exception of McCain of course).

(4,341 posts)That is what Elisa (My Fair Lady) sung and that is what I say to Democrats...lots of words, no action, the repubs get away with everything.
For example...why fight the fact the repubs voted to not release the rebuttal of the GOP Memo? Who cares? Now they can talk about it on TV and rebut it. The GOP memo is public domain, the democrats don't need to publish a rebuttal memo, all they need to do is go out on TV and rebut it when they are asked about it. Are they going to do it, or are they going to whine that the big bad repubs won't let me?

(2,050 posts)As they say, a warning shot, after dumpf S answer to a question this morning about firing Rosenstien as far as I'm concerned it's time.
I have always thought that Mr Mueller has a plan A,B and C waiting if it looked like they were coming for him, not just if he was fired but if it was obvious they were starting the steps required to do so.
It's Friday and I can't wait till the evening news dump, I'm not anxious as much as hopeful.
Wouldn't that be a treat!
