NEW YORK (Reuters) - Indiana said on Friday it will require its Medicaid recipients work or do some other form of community engagement, becoming the second state to make this fundamental change to the 50-year-old health insurance program for the poor.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said it approved Indianas waiver to add these requirements to its Medicaid program on Friday. The work requirement applies to able-bodied working age Medicaid enrollees, according to HHS.
Pregnant women, medically frail enrollees, students, some caregivers and people in substance use treatment are among those that are exempted from the requirements.

(32,005 posts)That Medicaid recipients still have to pay the rent, utilities, buy food, car payments, etc.
And if there is anyone out there who is desperate enough to try to scam the government just to see a doctor .... what does that tell you?

They don't care about the rent, utilities, food, car payments, etc.
This has become a very harsh state - in ways that it was not in 2000.

Since the entire Midwest, apart from Minnesota, is now governed by ALEC -loving McRepublicans, I suppose MI, IA, OH should all expect the same.

Even Mary Taylor--Kasich's Lt. Governor--who is running for Gov. this fall, said she is against Medicaid expansion altogether. Which is mind boggling, since her boss was so much in favor of it.
Of course, when they say they're against it, what do they have to offer to replace it? You never hear them come up with anything.

This infuriates me.. everyone I know with a medicaid card either is physically incapable of working or already working.
