Nunes: Fine, the FBI Didnt Lie, But Its Font Was Too Small
Source: nymag
The central, and most damaging, accusation in the memo published Friday by House Republicans is that the FBI failed to disclose the bias of one of its sources when it applied to wiretap Carter Page. Neither the initial application in October 2016, nor any of the renewals, disclose or reference the role of the DNC, Clinton campaign, or any party/campaign in funding [British agent Christopher] Steeles efforts, even though the political origins of the Steele dossier were then known to senior and FBI officials, charged the memo. That was hardly explosive, or the kind of damning failure that would send people to prison or be worse than Watergate, as Trump defenders charged. But it was something. If true.
Its not true. As the Ellen Nakashima reported, the application to wiretap Page did disclose that one of the sources of intelligence to generate suspicion that Page might be acting illegally came from a political source. It was mentioned in a footnote on the FISA application. Nunes was asked about this on Fox & Friends. He did not deny the point. Instead he insisted that it wasnt good enough because the disclosure was merely a footnote. A footnote saying something may be political is a far cry from letting the American people know that the Democrats and the Hillary campaign paid for dirt that the FBI then used to get a warrant on an American citizen to spy on another campaign, the distinguished Republican explained.......................

(1,336 posts)also from California? Maybe he's in Nunes' neighbouring district. Hard to believe that progressive Calif. still sends these regressive (or dare I say "traitors" to Washington.

(729 posts)nunes is from Fresno county, some 300 miles & some change to the north-northeast...it makes PERFECT sense that these areas are {{electing}} these troglodytes.

(8,924 posts)Rohrabacher 48th district is in Orange County
Stretching along the Pacific coastline from Seal Beach to Laguna Beach
This district includes Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Surfside, Corona del Mar,
Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo, Newport Coast,
Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Fountain Valley
as well as portions of Midway City, Westminster, Santa Ana and Garden Grove.
It is at least 4 Hrs. drive to Fresno, so it is some distance from Numbnuts.

(729 posts)for 2 months last Summer & thought that he "represented that area because the local news was CONSTANTLY talking about him & showing people protesting @ his office. When it comes to the drive to Fresno, it's MUCH further than 4 hours drive from Orange to Fresno. IF there was no issue with traffic, you MIGHT make it in that period of time if you can get away with driving at least 80 mph.
I'm originally from LA but I've lived up north since 1977 first in Merced county & now, since 1982 in the Capital. WE drove down to San Diego from the Sacramento Valley & that drive took at least 9 hours, (it's 500 miles & some change), & we made MOST of that drive during night & early morning.
BUT, Rohrbacher is DEFINITELY nowhere near Fresno County..

(4,309 posts)They start with a pre-conceived notion (which, to their chagrin, is rightly called a prejudice by the rest of us). Then they skim the text of any book or document, looking for words or short phrases that might support that pre-conceived notion. Then they shout those words and short phrases over and over and over and over and over and over....

(52,328 posts)should the sponsors of that opposition research do?
there's no 4th amendment protection against opposition research.
you don't have to throw out evidence just because a political opponent happened to find it.
as if republicans weren't the kings of political witch hunts....

(8,924 posts)This dossier was asked for and paid by the republican candidates
running against Herr Gropenfuhrer, during the primary.
After Cheetolini won the primary, the Clinton campaign found out
about it and paid Steele for a copy of the dossier.
When is this ever going to be mentioned in any of these news articles?

(4,490 posts)He's the one who gave the dossier to Comey in the first place. So we've got a dossier started by Republicans, handed off by a Republican senator to a Republican FBI director, then to apolitical Mueller (though a registered Republican). And Mueller was hired by Trump's own appointed man. Republicans are responsible for most of this.
