GOP fiscal hawks revolt against Senate budget deal

Source: The Hill

BY SCOTT WONG AND MELANIE ZANONA - 02/07/18 04:54 PM EST

House conservatives on Wednesday revolted against a massive bipartisan deal to raise the debt ceiling and bust spending caps, complaining that the GOP could no longer lay claim to being the party of fiscal responsibility.

“I’m not only a ‘no.’ I’m a ‘hell no,’” quipped Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), one of many members of the Tea Party-aligned Freedom Caucus who left a closed-door meeting of Republicans saying they would vote against the deal. It’s a “Christmas tree on steroids,” lamented one of the Freedom Caucus leaders, Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.).

“This spending proposal is disgusting and reckless — the biggest spending increase since 2009,” conservative Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) tweeted after the meeting. “I urge every American to speak out against this fiscal insanity.”

The debt hike, in particular, is giving conservatives “heartburn,” said Rep. Dennis Ross (R-Fla.), a member of the GOP vote-counting team.

President Cheney once said that deficits don't matter. Repubs have racked up huge deficit numbers. This is nothing new.

But, I suspect that the Freedumb Caucus members are not so much worried about big spending on military, just big spending on domestic social "junk", like health, education, infrastructure.

That's funny. Their patron saint Reagan tripled the national debt and they just carried on the tradition by adding $1.5 trillion to the deficit with a tax cut that won't do shit for the country. Laughable.

This budget is bullshit, especialy when taken in the context of the huge deficit balloon of a tax cut they just passed.

Of course that clown probably cheered for the tax cut.

it's so impossible to pay back that no one is even trying anymore. We've hit the hopeless level. Interesting to see what year the s**t hits the fan and how it will be.

We should see it coming as some states will probably hit the wall before the federal government, but it seems inevitable now.

Conservatives haven't been the party of fiscal responsibility since at least Nixon and I'm not even sure your party could lay claim to that either. Fiscal Conservative is a misnomer and you are a liar, you tRump enabling coward!

Fiscal responsibility is now the exclusive property of the democratic party. Go sit down you twerp!
