White House to unveil $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan

Source: The HILL

The White House on Monday will unveil its long-awaited $1.5 trillion infrastructure package aimed at overhauling U.S. public works.

The plan is structured around four goals: generate $1.5 trillion for an infrastructure proposal, streamline the permitting process down to two years, invest in rural infrastructure projects and advance workforce training.

It will add another 1.5 TRILLION to the debt and when Dems take over the cry will be ""OUR DEBT IS HURTING US WE HAVE TTHE SOCIAL SAFETY NET!!" Does this sound familiar?? The Repugs use it every time they run up the debt and when they get ousted that's their cry!!

most likely do. That's what they do in CA. Voters approved a 12 cent per gallon increase last year.

It'll be there cause of the YUUUUUGE revenues that'll trickle down from the Tax Cuts, plus cutting the Mandate, plus the new work requirements for Medicaid which'll bigly cut the rolls and put bajillion$ into State coffers, plus getting rid of all the pesky regulations on crap like worker/air/water safety ... and plus the stock market.

Or something ...

From what I've been reading in early releases he thinks businesses will for some reason shoulder the expense if the govt kicks in a small percent. Maybe he's planning a great era of new toll bridges, highways, and a federal EZ Pass.

What could he see in rural "infrastructure"? I have no idea.

That's EXACTLY what he's got in mind.

The taxpayer gets shiny new infrastructure, BUT it comes with strings attached, like tolls and/or exorbitantly expensive maintenance contracts locked-in for decades.

Look what happened with the PFI (Private Finance Initiative) deals in the UK over recent decades. Local authorities and the NHS are being buried under the resultant debt.

https://www.hackneykeepournhspublic.org/privatisation-3-pfi-buildings--infrastructure.html

If would of course have been cheaper for the government to borrow the money to invest in the infrastructure - particularly when interest rates have been so low.

That is if I'm recalling Econ 101 correctly

I sense though you're suggesting that this debt is going to cause the inflation itself? That's more complex and outside my very basic 'understanding' of economics.

that borrowing prior to inflation allows repayment in dollars that are easier to earn.

I don't recall the 70s as a time when dollars were easy money

you borrowed, you add interest, you repay and repay as the products you use daily are costing you more and more, leaving you with less and less

Economists never get it right. they just argue who is right.

Former Gov Brokeback and Republicans LOOTED funds that were in our KDOT safe for doing road projects, bridges etc. They LOOTED the funds to give Kansas Corporations a ZERO tax rate for over FOUR YEARS. That's now been rolled back but it will be YEARS before KDOT can once again be fully funded.

Trump and Republicans will do like Brownback did--RAISE TAXES (sales tax twice in Kansas) and then use the money for the RICH and Corporations. Don't believe for a SECOND that KING CON Donnie raising the Fed fuel tax will go towards infrastructure.
