Donald Trump's Inaugural Committee Still Won't Say What It's Doing With Its Leftover Money

Source: The Daily Beast

It’s been over a year, and it could be many more months until the public knows where these funds are going.

Representatives for President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee still won’t say what the committee did—or plans to do—with the tens of millions of dollars it pledged to charity last year. And it may be many more months until the public finally knows.

The committee smashed the record for inauguration fundraising, bringing in about $107 million, double the sum raised for Barack Obama’s first inauguration, which held the previous record. But Trump’s inaugural committee only spent about half of that money. The rest, it said, would go to philanthropic ends.

More than a year later, no one knows what those ends will be.

A spokesperson for Tom Barrack, Trump’s personal friend and the chairman of the committee, told The Daily Beast on Dec. 8 that it would be filing an annual report detailing its charitable giving with the Internal Revenue Service “in the next several weeks.” It is now Feb. 12, and it still hasn’t done so and there is no indication of when it will.

It's a family tradition. Stealing, and besides he didn't need that much money because no one was there.
Putin didn't even show. Sad!

I'll eat my stinky socks if any of that money makes it to a legitimate charity.

There are none, basically in place anymore w/ the advent of 'Citizens United'. Unlimited dark money coming in from who knows where and basically buying US elections. How's that for fair and equal representation in this country for all of us?

I don't understand this hypocrisy w/ so much money in our elections. It should be totally different, w/ rules that all must follow.

1) release all financials, including tax returns, this prevents conflicts of interest, period;
2) election cycles are very short, no money before 90 days of an election, and all rebated back to a common pool within 90 days after an election, no exceptions, if anything also here, cycles could be 60 days instead of 90 days;
3) term limits;
4) some level of competency, e.g., a basic competency test on constitution, and other non-partisan ?s;
5) put teeth into the federal election commission, and immediately impose sanctions when rules are violated (don't wait till years down the road!);
6) to prevent interference, no election ads 1 or 2 weeks before and after elections. France does something like this;
7) release all pertinent information w/ regards to lawsuits (Confidentiality Agreements on all topics are automatically voided and must be provided to the public immediately);

Most of this can be applied almost to all governmental functions. I'm sure more can be added.

Sadly, I expect no positive action on majority of all of these. Perhaps some of us should pretend to be a convict, and write a letter to the SCOTUS objecting to the unlimited amounts of money coming into our elections and diluting all of our votes (Citizens United).
