Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump still isn't buying that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
Even as his intelligence chiefs unanimously told a Senate panel Tuesday that Russia meddled in 2016 and is planning to do so again in 2018, three sources familiar with the President's thinking say he remains unconvinced that Russia interfered in the presidential election.
While this issue is separate from the question of whether Trump campaign officials colluded with Russian officials, to Trump the issues are interwoven, the sources say. He views the notion that Russia meddled in the election as an argument that he had help to win, and that he didn't win the election on his own.
Trump's view contradicts his intelligence chiefs, including Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, CIA Director Mike Pompeo and FBI Director Chris Wray, who all testified -- again -- on Tuesday that they supported the intelligence community's January 2017 assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
"There should be no doubt that Russia perceives its past efforts as successful and views the 2018 US midterm elections as a potential target for Russian influence operations," Coats said at the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on worldwide threats.

(1,803 posts)Trump never can concede that Russia tampered with the election. The minute he does, he concedes that hes an illegitimate President. He also never can come down on domestic violence or sexual assault as the minute he does, all the women in his past will start coming out of the woodwork. Stormy Daniels was nothing.

It should be noted that these intel chiefs were Trump appointees, not Obama's. And they testified under oath that a foreign country interfered in our election, because it's true.

(13,613 posts)Horrible headline. Replace 'unconvinced' with 'won't admit.'
The term 'unconvinced' assumes the person is open to persuasion which implies they are aware they may not have all the facts. None of this applies to trump.

One of Trump's first actions was convening a commission to find 3 million imaginary votes. Meanwhile, an attack on our country and election gets no attention.
It matters if the POTUS is knowledgable, thoughtful, careful, compassionate, intelligent, well-read, capable of complex problem solving, adult, stable, honest, self aware, a good person, trustworthy, decent, and living in reality. And if matters if he is not any of these things.

(38,439 posts)I think you are correct. I think on this one, he does know a whole lot more than most of us think he knows..
Now in general, he knows much less than he claims to know..he is acutally pretty stupid. But on this one, I do think he knows a whole lot more...??maybe we will find out..maybe not..

(3,246 posts)He'd remain "unconvinced" if he sat there chit-chatting with Putin while a team of FSB operatives were stuffing ballot boxes right in front of him. It's not a matter of being convinced, it's a matter of denial. He knows deep down that if he hadn't had someone cheating on his behalf, he'd go down in history as an also-ran with a dead hamster on his head.
And that's assuming he wasn't in on it, which I don't believe for a moment.

(5,732 posts)Russia meddled in the US election, that is a fact, confirmed by the Senate, by the trump appointed head of the CIA, and by the trump appointed secretary of state.
That should constitute an act of war against the US.
Trump's ongoing collusion and obstruction of justice to protect our enemy is an act of treason.
Everything else is just window dressing.

(182,868 posts)But for brevity I'll mention that they steered specific computers in specific areas of the country towards pro- Trump coverage and anti-Hillary coverage. They also deployed quite a few bots into social media.
Congress was briefed on the extent of actions by Russian interests and that was part of the reason for the sanctions (which Trump refused to implement). The Senate voted 98-2 and the House voted 419-3. That's how bad the intel they got was.
