Dems flip seat in Florida state special election

Source: The Hill

Democrats won a special state House election in Florida Tuesday night, picking up a seat previously held by an incumbent in a district President Trump won in the 2016 presidential election.

Margaret Good, the Democratic candidate, won the District 72 special election with 52.17 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Florida Department of State. Her Republican opponent, James Vernon Buchanan, won 44.8 percent of the vote.

Trump won the district 51-46 over Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race.

The seat became empty following the resignation of former state Rep. Alexandra Miller (R).

My aunt and uncle live in Venice so I don't know if that's still the same district but if so they would have voted for her too. I love the Sarasota area although it's been 51 years since I lived there lol.

I'm not above driving down there from Orlando just get a butterscotch pie from Yoder's.

We are on a roll but let's not get overly confident! We have allot of the same old, same old obstacles. We must all volunteer and donate in small sums until the midterms, and beyond. RESIST!

That's really something.

Twice in recent years the Republican Party of Sarasota County selected Trump as "Statesman of the Year", so you know there are a lot of batshit crazies and complete assholes there.

Florida Democrat flips Trump district blue in stunning win

In the second special election win of the week, Margaret Good claimed victory in Florida's 72nd State House District.

In Minnesota on Monday night, voters handed Democrats an important win by retaining a key state senate district and throwing the GOP majority into jeopardy.

And on Tuesday night, voters kept the wins coming, this time in Florida where Democratic attorney Margaret Good bested GOP realtor James Buchanan to take Florida’s 72nd State House District.

The district, which includes most of the city of Sarasota, backed Trump in 2016, but swung 6 points toward Democrats in the special election.

Despite the district leaning red, Good campaigned on a number of liberal causes, including environmental protection, preventing school privatization, and maintaining Obamacare protections. And the voters rewarded her for it.

Republicans had a lot riding on this seat, and it is a danger sign for the party’s prospects in other races next fall, including holding onto the governorship and challenging Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson.......................................

Ol' hard-right Chuck probably would have cut off his hand rather than let it be used to celebrate a Dem victory.

While you're trying to figure out ways to "trigger", we're doing that thing called "voting" and "winning elections", and I got to say it feels a hell of a lot better than getting triggered!
